March Surf Report – update from Macaronis Resort
Hey Crew
Well it’s been another great start to the season here at Macas Resort with some super fun waves enjoyed by all. We have barely had a flat day during March; there has usually always been something on the doorstep with not too many people around either.
Matt and I enjoyed a particularly fun session in early March on our lonesome with 3-5 ft double ups glassy perfection, easy to get a 20 barrels in a session when its like that, then mid March Josh Kerr and crew from Tengiri showed up and enjoyed another solid swell that hit over a few days, prior to our first guests arriving on the 16th of March.
Our first week was quite, with just 2 guests being Sam and Phil from the UK, and Christian ‘Barts’ signed on as surf guide. The first week we enjoyed some solid sessions on our own, with the odd boat passing through but generally it has been pretty quite. Waves the first week were consistent in the 3-4 foot range, so it was the perfect opening of the season for us and we were all stoked.
The following week Dicky, Tom, Matt, Mike and Sam arrived from the UK, plus Claus ‘the German dry lander’ being his fourth visit to Macas Resort in 3 years. At the last minute we also had 7 guests book from Australia who were supposed to be on a boat charter but had to cancel due to permit problems. So the 7 Aussies, being Paul, Nash, Robbo, Matt, Damo, Ryan and Daniel joined in on the trip and kept their chins up admirably, despite being let down by their charter operator.
The surf in the last week of March admittedly wasn’t as consistent as the previous weeks, but still we got fun waves pretty much every day, and also did a couple of trips to surrounding breaks. We did not see a single charter boat for 7 days straight, which was a bonus. With some bad weather hitting mid week, this also meant everybody was quite content happy sticking around the resort and surfing mainly at Macas.
This week is the first week of April, and we again have a quite week with Danny and Simon from Australia, a couple of Poms, Jason (3rd visit) and Mark, Gerry from Italy and Claus is still here consumed by Yoga, the waves and his usual good vibes. We have been getting some sick sessions; last night just 4 of us enjoyed the last hour of glass absolutely pumping with some really smackable lips and some deep tubes reeling through.
But what can I say, this is pretty damn normal as Macas is such a pumping wave and so consistent.
For the 3 weeks ahead it is still not too busy, so if anybody would like to join in for a trip then just drop us an email to [email protected]
Other News:
We have Byron lads Danny Wills, Garret Parkes and Sol Bailey headed over in early June for a week at Macas, while Sol and his dad Andrew will be doing a month here while Andrew also does some filming for guests…. Soli should be ripping by the end of that stint!!
Adriano Desouza and Silvana Lima are coming to Macas Resort for 2 weeks in May, for a training session and to hopefully score some great Macaronis and Greenbush epicness. Adriano did a trip last year on Indies 4 for Red Bull and scored BIG time at Macas and Greenbush, and having visited Macas Resort before, he now has opted to just stay on location at Macas for his stint in the Ments in 2010.
CURRENT SPECIAL: Each week booked at Macas Resort currently includes a free deep tissue massage, 1 free can of beer daily and inclusive wireless internet, from US$1630 for 8 days / 9 nights OR US$2770 for 15 days / 16 nights.
HOT OFF THE PRESS: NON-SURFING BACKPACKER GIRLS are now offered dorm style accommodation on the second floor of the main building. Let’s face it, 90% of our guests are male surfers, so no harm in offering backpacker girls the opportunity to visit at a cheaper rate, boosting the atmosphere with a more even balance of sexes on the island, whilst having no effect on numbers in the line up….!! This offer is only available to those girls already in Indo, and seeking something a little different from their travel experience.
The opening rate for back packer girls is US$75 per night including 3 meals daily prepared by our chefs, shared dormitory style accommodation and bathroom facilities in the main building.
* Please note spots are limited and dependant on other guests booked at the resort during that time. Please drop us a line to check on availability if you’re interested.
Charter Boat Visiting Hours have now been introduced to protect privacy of in-house guests staying at Macaronis Resort. This will create a system so everybody is not trying to use resort facilities at one time, and so when charter boat guests come in to get a massage or do their internet in the afternoon, this will be a prime time for resort guests to hit the line up. Charter boat guests are welcome to visit between 4:00pm and 7:00pm daily.
Here are a few recent photos, but nothing really that shows the quality of the waves we’ve been scoring. We’ll have to get the boat drivers drilled a bit better admittedly in this department!!
Hahaha, Backpacker girls, our current guests thought it was worth a try!!
$75 USD per night..??
pretty sure any backpacker won’t be able to afford that.
unless they are blonde and don’t know any different.
maybe that’s the type your after…??? ahahaha
Come on, we give them a 3 course meal at night, full breakfast, a hearty lunch, a comfortable bed, use of resort equipment, what more do they want? Soon they’ll even have a pool to swim in. Ok maybe drop it to $50 bucks a night haha, then we might get some brunetts. Gotta love blonde jokes.
