Kandui Surf Resort Mentawai Islands
The Trip – Part 3
I’m not sure which day it was. It was fairly early in the trip and we
undoubtably had surfed somewhere epic in the morning. We had eaten a nice meal and
were rested up. The wind had turned and was blowing out of the south. The tide was
a bit low, but we decided to give Hideaway’s a check for the afternoon surf. When
we got there, conditions were great and the lineup was empty. We have been getting
used to that on this trip! The tide was pretty marginal, but I paddled out to give
it a closer look. What looked to be head high waves were actually closer to double
overhead, and there were some big-ass, scary looking barrles! I paddled for a
couple of them with aligator arms and watched them reel and spit from behind. Then,
almost like magic, it just seemed like there was more water on the reef, the waves
were suddenly manageable, and it was on! The rest of the guys came out and we all
had a great time. There was something for
everyone. The angle of the swell was perfect and we could sit and pick big,
medium, or small ones without worrying about getting caught inside. Conditions
were perfect an everyone had a great time and we surfed until dark.
