Kandui Surf Resort Mentawai Islands
Oct. 31st surf report.
What was to be our second to the last group got a treat just before they left with a
sneaky Rifles swell. It was clean all morning with sets going a few feet overhead,
and it was just our crew out there. It had already been a good trip, and that was
the icing on the cake!
The night before they left to return home, we had a small earthquake. It was so
small here that most people didn’t even feel it. Little did we know what was
happening down at Macaroni’s and the neighboring villages. Ours hearts go out to
all the people down there.
This all happened the night before our Hurley group was to come to the island and
with all the unknown factors involved they thought it would be a good idea to
postpone their trip. So we only have one lucky guest on the island right now who is
has the whole resort to himself and is living like a king!
No offense guys, I know that you probably spent a hell of a lot of money and time to get there. The fact is, people are dying just an island or two over (two hour boat ride) while you are enjoying the fruits of a placated ocean. I hope that you’re helping the Mentawais people instead of just surfing. They could use any relief efforts right now.
