****AFTERNOON SURF UP DATE****
Hi crew and thanks for hanging around for today’s “1 click” run down on surfing and weather conditions from the best value for surfing holiday dollar destination of Bali.
First up I’ve had a couple of worried EX – PATS from up at Balian concerned that the recent shark attack will cut the number of visiting surfers to *their surf break. I don’t think you guys will have to worry and we’ll keep promoting the friendly and laid back vibe that is always on offer from the local Balinese in this area. Great place for learning to surf as well.
Ok, now I’ve got that off my chest, this mornings surf recon of the Outer reefs here in Tuban was showing wave height to be still hanging in there in the waist to shoulder high region. Clean as a whistle surfing conditions at 6.45Am with the wind coming lightly out of the ENE @ 2 – 3knot.
But as you have already noticed in today’s photo gallery we were sitting pretty down on the southern end of the island at Uluwatu. We never arrived until around 8.00AM and even so wave height was coming through at shoulder to well over head high on the Main Peak and Temple section. Crowd wise there was something like 15 surfers riding the Peak and another handful down at Temple’s.
Surfing conditions down at Ulu were also pristine this morning and we are hoping that today is the first of many more to flow, the start of our dry season. We hung out for two sessions and the wind pretty well stayed clean and off-shore for the duration. Crowd wise well that did vary quite a lot and at one stage there would have been 100 surfers spread out between the Racetrack right through to Temple’s (around 800mtrs distant).
Driving back home past Padang Padang and Impossible’s there wasn’t anything breaking at PP but there were a few small lines bending down the reef at Impossible’s.
We also had an sms surf report from our friends over at lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa (east of Bali). Apparently the boys and girls staying at lakey’s are also enjoying some shoulder to slightly over head waves on the Peak with clean and glassy conditions.
Tidal info for today had us down for a 1.7mtr High @ 8.00AM and then running out for a 1.0mtr Low around the 2.00PM mark.
Weather wise I don’t think the sun showed itself once today. But all the same no rain, just overcast with high cloud. Warm and humid @ 28 degree’s Celsius.
Swell Forecast, stay tuned because Saturday through til next Wednesday is looking pretty good for plenty of swell and light and favorable winds.
The Aussie dollar is still holding just over he Rp9,000 mark
We’ve also got some new surfing / accommodation packages sorted out for those of you who want nothing more to think about except surfing, at the right place at the right time. Hit this info link to find out more.
Good news for any of you that want to get over to the legendary location of G-Land this year as baliwaves.com will still be dishing out a solid 15% discount off their advertised prices for the G-Land Surf Camp. All camps at G-Land will be re opening in March 2011 so if you want some un crowded G-Land get in early. Make sure you contact us first if you want that 15% rebate back in your pocket.
We’ve also been playing around with our “Surf Spots” page where we are currently up-dating with more locations, and an extra bonus of Bali street maps. So go and get yourself lost in there !
Best Regards in Surfing

Hi Slim, looks like a really soft clean wave at Ulu, WOW!!
Not big, but looks really nice. It would be good to see a short video clip to really get the feel’ I know that is easier said than done, can’t spend your life carting equipment around just to please an old fart like me.
Cheers Doc. See ya in May

‘Shark Attack’? Come on guys, it was a nibble on the thumb by something so tiny that it’s a joke. If people keep batting that phrase around of course its gonna get attention and apprehensions rise from tension. It’s part and parcel of being in the Ocean. Gotta accept that sometimes interactions may not always be in our favor….
