****AFTERNOON SURF UP DATE****
Hello everyone and a big thank you for calling by the baliwaves (’99) for the latest on surfing and weather conditions from the No.1 surfing holiday destination of Bali.
We never got a chance for the morning surf check on the Outer’s today becuase we were up and way up the road when the sun come up. With a dropping swell and light morning wind expected / hoped for, we decided on hitting the highway West. Taking on the traffic and arriving just on sun rise to see wave height peeling off left and right from the A Frame river mouth break. Surf conditions were clean with just a slight sniff of off shore wind and the tide to start running in.
There was only one other surfer in the water at first light sneaking in a few sly right handers. By 9.00AM the head count would have easily gone 50 but with plenty of waves in the head to well over head class, and the usual friendly crowd of people. It was a pretty smooth running day for us, avoiding the traffic both ways, scoring some fun waves and even picking up those two delicious Durian fruit for only AU$3.30 total.
Weather wise up the coast this morning it was virtually on the edge of raining before we started to see some sunny breaks. Currently outside right now @ 4.00PM the temperature is sitting on 27 degree’s Celsius with the wind coming out of the SE @ 12knot+.
Heading towards Kuta / Seminya from any direction you may encounter some traffic delays over the next week or two with the start of Indonesian National holidays, so just be try to be patient.
While I’m on the traffic scene I’ve been meaning to say something about some of the crazy crazy stuff I’ve seen over the years from happy easy going folk on holidays riding motor bikes around Bali when they shouldn’t be. Then spoiling / ending their vacation and maybe their friends vacation from a motor cycle accident. I don’t know what the exact statastics for motorcycle accidents involving foreigners in Bali would be, but I’m damn sure they would be right up there. The average tourist I see on the “automatic scooters” that have never even rode a push bike in heavy traffic, let alone a motorcycle than can hit speeds of over 100kmh is a joke. The most experienced riders in Bali ride slowly with total awarness and caution at all times, helmet, always. So please excersise some common sense when thinking about riding motor bikes in Bali, your on holiday, grab a car and a driver, relax.
For any of you that just want nothing more than a hassle free, get up and go surf perfect waves every morning, see and do what the hotel / resort sect don’t. Well we have some new surfing / accommodation packages that will have you at the right location at the right time everyday. All deals include your own photographer at no extra cost. Well Slim I reckon you didn’t see the stat last month in the Bali Times, did you? Over the 3 month period before August 768 people died on the roads here, and the stat was that was mostly motor bike deaths. You know how high that is, don’t you? I can assure you it was not from “cautious riders that were aware” at all times. In fact after driving pretty much all over the world for great distances I can tell you these are THE most dangerous drivers in the world IMO. They are without courtesy, at least 89%, and this is what leads to all the deaths. ONe rule here, Saya mau duluan. That means, Me first.
With tourists and some expats here, they they see the stupidity of the driving here and think, “why hell I can do that” this leads to all the accidents you speak of. I’ve told of few on the road, “Hey why don’t drive like to have to where you come from?” Of course this came to blows since they couldn’t understand they were dumba$$.
I had a good friend of mine of 9 years who had been here longer die on a curve a few weeks ago.. We sent him home in style. Let it be a word of warning to what Slim is saying here. It’s easy to die on a bike here, but the tourist media doesn’t want you to know.. La Bamaba

Perfect I thought there’d be someone with the statistics soon enough for ya’s. There ya go and don’t even think about having a few beers and getting on your bike, you have never done it at home and have absolutely no experience as a drunk driver…… not like some of the older surfers have, pre breath testing days.
