BALI
18th October
Hi crew and thanks for calling back by the baliwaves.com (Bali’s first surfing website since 1999) for the latest news on surfing and weather conditions from here on the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
This mornings 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs was pretty much showing dry reef. But there was still swell ranging from 2-4ft between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. KR and AL were right out of the equation but Middle Reef was peeling off nicely in the head to well over head class. Surfing conditions couldn’t have been any better, well wind direction I mean anyway, with a light ENE off shore wind.
As it shows in today’s photo gallery Ketut was down on location at Bali’s premier surfing arena of Uluwatu. Just missing out on the early Racetrack session but there looked to be still quite a few warping through the low tide section.
I was taking my time working my way back from up the West Coast after battling it out with a solid double ratchet screaming Spanish Mac hook up, and eventually losing out.. But I also took a cruise down to the bukit as well around midday. Balangan by this time only had around 25 surfers in the water with head high sets. The tide was too full for Bingin and Impossible’s. Talking of Impossible’s man the development that’s sprung up in the way of resorts, hotels along that cliff face is incredible. While high tide Uluwatu was still producing head to well over head high waves.
Weather wise there were a few drops of rain early this morning but since then it’s been another fin and sunny day for the lucky one’s still here in Bali.
Ok I’m beat, so thanks for tuning in and we’ll be back out there again for ya’s again tomorrow. So stay stoked right here on Bali’s original surf report website.
Oh yeah and there is a new bodyboard photo gallery on line for those that do it.
Today’s G-Land Surf Report thanks to the G-Land Surf Camp was calling clean fun sized waves breaking on Kongs and Money Tree’s in the head to over head class. At 7.45Am there were no surfers in the water.

Hey D, yeah it’s all experience in fishing. I was alone in my boat yesterday which is the biggest challenge and very hard work to keep everything under control. My double outrigger is only around 1mtr wide (x 9mtrs) so trolling two rods there’s not much room for error (tangled lines as you can imagine) First 1 rod went off so I hit the gas to sink the hooks, then the second rod went off as well, and then the fun began ! By the feel of the fish on my favorite rod (the one I choose to play first) it was a big fish between 10 – 20kgs) So picture this, here I am leaning back on a light – medium full roller trolling rod and she is bent big time while steering my boat with my foot as I had to keep the boat in gear and moving to try and keep the two fish apart. Watching my other rod at the same time to make sure the other fish is still on and to trace which direction it is running. But the Spaniards around here are pretty smart and will charge back at the boat trying to give them self some slack line in order to throw the hooks (shake the hooks free from their mouth). So what happened then was the two fish must have crossed half a dozen times at least creating a tangle from hell and resulting in two free fish. All in all it wasn’t that disappointing and there was another boat close by watching my fun, the two fish lived to fight another day and I had a very exciting 8 minutes of full adrenaline rush. This happened way up the coast at Tahnalot, from there I trolled all the way back to the Outer Reefs of Tuban and from there I continued trolling right down to in front of the Temple at Uluwatu and then back to Tuban, no more strikes. I did throw some spinning lures at some good sized surface Tuna but they didn’t want nothing to do with it.. If I didn’t get so much sun yesterday I’d be getting ready to push the boat back down right now (5.30AM 19th Oct).

I can imagine the mess done on the 2 both lines by spanish mac caught and keeping under control your narrow canoe, such a surprise happens cruising the sea along this beautifull coast , i would like to be there as well as surfing the hidden mid section of Impossible.
At home i troll for SM with two lines the longer under surface ( less than 10 feet) and the shorter the deeper (30feet) but last time I lost probably a 10kg which did open the hook because i tight it too much to avoid to mix the surface line or did I was impress by the strike shaking my 14’29″kayac out by the sea. Only fisherman knows this feeling.
Thanks for yours waves or fishes’ reports.
