BALI
12th – 13th – 14 January 2013
Hi folks and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com (doing this since 1999) for the start of another surfing week and the latest news and views on surfing & weather conditions. From here on the with out a doubt No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination on the planet, BALI.
Ok so I’m going to do a quick review of the last couple of days starting out on the 12th where we first of all checked Keramas on the East side of the island. But surfing conditions were just a bit too wild with a strong short period swell breaking all over the place and a chocolate brown colored water from all the rain that previously fell. So from there we cruised back to Serangan (photos No.64 to 87). There wave height was still coming through solid in the 4-6ft+ range. Surfing conditions were a little bumpy at first and then cleaning up when the wind dedicated to the West around 2.00PM mark.
Yesterday the 13th we took another run back up to Keramas in the morning hoping conditions would have settled down. But it was obvious it hadn’t with a still pretty un organized ocean with a short period medium sized swell. Even the wind was light on shore. I also feel sorry for the owners of the warung / cafe right in front of the main break at Keramas. On the night of the 12th, one day after the New Moon, with a solid swell and an equally solid late night High Tide their warung was devasted. Lying relatively low on the shoreline. The foundation rock wall along the front of the new resort in front of Keramas was also smacked pretty hard. Scattering some pretty big rocks and boulders down along the shore line and into the water.
From there we went all the way down to the South Western tip of the island to Bali’s premier surfing location of Uluwatu. Here wave height was more in the 3-5ft range with the tide running out. There was 8 surfers in the water and surfing conditions were clean enough with a little bump from the on shore wind. It was around 3.30PM that conditions turned perfect, with the wind dropping down to a slight off shore breeze and the Racetrack section started firing through some real nice tube rides. Then by 5.30PM the wind flicking back on shore and all over.
This morning the 14th and now at 10.00AM we have a mainly overcast sky and some light rain has fallen here in Tuban. Earlier the wind was a faint Northerly of 1knot and Kuta Reef had some fun looking waves peeling off in the 2-3ft+ range. Now the wind has swung back to the West @ 2-4knot. We’ll keep an eye on conditions and will probably head back out to see whats happening on the lower end of the tide this arvo.
The next tide today is going to be a 2.4mtr High at 11.55AM.
Currently the temperature is on 27 degree’s Celsius, Humidity level is @ 89%. With a chance of some more light rain this afternoon.
