OAKLEY PRO BALI
20th June 2013
Hello everyone and thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves today (the original Bali surf report since 1999) For the latest news on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the best value for tropical surfing holiday dollar venue of BALI.
Ok so it was day 3 at the Oakley Pro Bali and Ketut and I were on site at Keramas beach waiting for the 6.30AM call to start the main event. In the mean time there was some red hot free surfing going down to keep us occuppied until the call eventually came to get the show on the road at 8.05AM. As you can see in today’s photo gallery wave height was a solid and consistent head to well over head high and surfing conditions silky clean through the morning.
The first heat run today (total of 2) was a surprise wildcard entry for a super stoked Indonesian surfer named Putra Hermawan who was in fact the runner up of the Trials event. Putra went out there and with pure talent and local knowledge blasted Brett Simpson outta the water with a couple of long and deep tube rides. So our boy progresses through to round 3.
The final heat of today and the final heat of round 2 say Matt Wilkinson and Kolohe Andino take to the water but it was all one way with Wilko clocking up some good early points from start to finish. So it was the end of round 2 at 9.08AM and pretty well not another word was muttered over the PA system from the commentators. Leaving pretty much everyone in the lurch as to round 3 would continue or not. And still the waves were rolling through.
By 11.00AM Ketut and I were both starving hungry and out of drinking water, with no further up dates we figured everyone had gone home from the commentary booth so we did the same.
To me it looks like wave height will be backing off over the next few days but with a fresh medium sized swell in transit to Bali for hopefully Sunday afternoon.
Hats off to Indonesian stand out surfer Putra Hermawan ! going where no other Indo surfer has ever gone before, round 3 of a Professional Surfing Contest.
Weather wise over on the blistering black sand beach of Keramas it was straight out HOT and out in the open it must been mid 30’s on the Celsius scale. Right now at 3.45PM the temp is still up there in the low 30’s and my last wind check had the wind coming lightly outta the ESE.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Tuban; — 1US$=Rp9,900 — 1AU$=Rp9,250 — give or take a few Rupiah depending on vendor.
