BALI
1st – 2nd March 2014
Hi folks and welcome back to the baliwaves.com (there is only 1 original baliwaves Bali surf report website, since 1999) for the latest news and best views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Well after a fantastic Nypie Day here at home with just my family I was refreshed and ready to go on the 1st of April. So I gathered my guests and we headed south down to Uluwatu. knowing that there wouldn’t be a hell of a lot of surf to be found we were still hoping that Uluwatu would deliver some fun sized waves, or any ridable waves for that matter. But with a solid 2.5mtr High tide and still only 1 foot of swell even the majestic Uluwatu was barely breaking. Surfing conditions though were perfect with a fresh off shore wind, there was around 35 surfers in the water trying to surf fat knee high waves. So we calleded it a day and made our plans for yesterday the 2nd.
Our plan was to hit the road at 4.45AM and bee line it up the West coast highway to arrive at Balian on sun rise. And that’s pretty well how it worked out, arriving at our destination right on 6.30AM. As it shows in our current photo gallery it was well worth the mission. Arriving to see perfect left and rights peeling off the A frame peak in the 2-4ft range. A nd as the tide kept pushing in I’d have to even say there were some solid double over head freak sets. Crowd wise the numbers peaked at 30 riders scattered through the line up.
My guests witnessed a strange thing out in the line up yesterday, and this is what they said happened. “A westerner tourist dropped in on a local Balinese surf guide and even after being called off the wave the white guy continued to surf the wave and cutting back for a near miss collision. Then after the wave the drop in then further abused the local surfer by saying he (the Indonesian surfer) wasn’t a local at Balian and that he (the westerner) was”, go figure that out.
Weather wise the last few days have just been your typical perfect holiday weather with pretty well nothing more than blue sky and sunshine.
Today the 3rd and our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was showing wave height in the waist to chest high range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Clean and glassy surfing conditions and there were a handfull of surfers already in the water on Middle Reef.
The next tide today will be a 2.4mtr High at 12.00noon.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Seminyak yesterday: –1US$=Rp11,335 — 1AU$=Rp10,400 —
Current swell prediction. Thursday will bring some relief with a medium size swell arriving through the morning, but starting to back off through Friday. At least this day of waves should open up a good variety of locations to surf at. Continuing to drop off through Saturday and Sunday but we should still be able to find a few waves. Further out there maybe some more waves heading our way Tuesday if we are lucky.

Regarding the bule at whored out Balian; if the bule is living in Tabanan and above Balian in the hills for quite a while, and the Balinese(Jawa)guy is a frekin guide, you know the kind who pull up with a load of Japanese and try to clear out the lineup for their “guests” by acting like tough guys. Then ya; the bule is the local, and the Indo fellow is the out-of-towner, and that’s how it works all over the world. Getting called off a wave around here by some guy that is always a wave hog, well he can go fish. I would say more, but it don’t matter around this island any more..
