BALI
16th – 17th July 2014
Hi folks and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves.com The original since 1999) for the latest news and best views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the World’s No.1 tropical holiday island of Bali.
Ok so if you didn’t work it out a couple a days back on the 16th it was one of those very rare occasions when the surf in Bali was down to micro size. And I’m talking Uluwatu was only in the 1-2ft class, at 8.45AM there were no surfers in the water. On the other hand the beach breaks from Kuta to Seminyak were going off with 1-2 footers. Ketut did shoot some photos of it but after checking them out I figured you guys and girls didn’t need to see them.
Yesterday the 17th and it was a whole different ball game here on the holiday island. Our 7.00AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was now showing wave height in the 3-5ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were fairly clean with the wind light out of the WNW, the tide was just getting ready to start running back in.
So we took our time hoping that the SE Trade wind would kick in some time in the next couple hours, or any minute for that matter before heading down to Uluwatu. Arriving at 9.45AM to find wave height rolling through in the 4-6ft range from the Main Peak to the top of the Racetrack. Surfing conditions at the time were still clean and glassy with the wind still light on shore.
There were some clean and long rides and with a couple of barrels thrown in for good measure. We hung out till 2.00PM and even by then the wind was still coming out of the SW, so we packed up. The wind did eventually swing to the SE and off shore here along the West side around 2.45PM. I also have to say the ocean off Uluwatu was well and truelly alive with sea life yesterday. Big schools of Jack and Tuna chasing the schools of bait fish, Spanish Makrel jumping and not to mention some whales jumping. A friend of mine was out fishing and he also reckons a couple of big Whale sharks were hanging around near his boat on top of the water. Looked like a healthy system to me.
This morning the 18th and my 7.15AM surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was still showing a lot of water moving and 3-5ft waves between Kuta Reef and Airports. The tide was still dropping at the time and the wind was light out of the NNW.
Weather wise it was mostly cloudy yesterday and it is again this morning the 17th and there has even been a few drops of rain to start off our day. Right now outside at 8.15AM the temperature is on 26 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 88%. Wind direction was light out of the NNW.
Congratulations to Made Ropik Uluwatu local and all round good guy, who has just signed with Quiksilver Indonesia as a Team Rider.
