BALI

Selamat Hari Raya Galungan to all my Balinese friends
Hello surfers and thanks for taking the time out to drop into the baliwaves (keeping it original since 1999) for the latest news and best around the island views from right here on the best value for hard earned tropical surfing holiday dollar destination called Bali.
Well this morning 6.30AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban wasn’t looking too bad. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left / Right was still breaking in the 2-3ft range. surfing conditions at the time were fairly clean and glassy with only a breath of light wind detectable and the tide high.
So we thought we’d take a run down to the Southern end of the island, as it has been awhile and see how the waves were at Uluwatu. But unfortunately by the time we got out on the highway South we could see the flags and banners flapping hard with a straight Westerly wind lighting them up. So the West Coast from Canggu to Uluwatu would have been mushed out when the wind hit.
So we did a quick u tuen and headed over to the East Coast with our first stop being Serangan. Pulling up to find wave height a super consistent 3-4ft with the odd bigger freak set and the wind blowing fresh off shore. No need to look elsewhere was the call with long and clean left and right hand waves. Crowd wise at the time (8.00am) there were only 15 surfers spread through the whole line up. We packed up at 11.30AM and there were still long and clean waves rolling through but with maybe 30+ surfers out there by that time.
Weather wise it was hot and sunny as can be expected here on the holiday island. Right now at 5.00PM the temperature is just starting to cool down at 27 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is on 79%. Wind direction still coming out of the West at 12-14knot.
Hey now with the summer happening here in the Southern Hemisphere I’m sure there are going to be plenty of you Northerners heading “down under” to Australia’s famous Gold Coast area to sample some “Super Bank” waves after your time on this island. Or maybe to do some unique surf trips with the best surf camp in Australia. Well you people had better check out these two websites.
