BALI / INDONESIA
22nd – 23rd July 2015
Hi folks and welcome back to the baliwaves (flooding you with Bali surf photos since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on every sane surfers first choice tropical surfing holiday destination.
Alright so here’s another 58 photos that Ketut snapped yesterday morning over on the East side of the island at Keramas. Our man was on the scene at 8.00AM just as the tide was starting to run back in and the wind still only a light on shore Easterly. There was only 10-12 surfers in the water and half of these were local boys, we were also lucky to find young Indonesian grommet star surfer Raju Sena in the water and today’s photo gallery pretty much does feature this young rising surfer. Ketut hung out until around 10.00AM and by that time the Easterly on shore wind was all over Keramas.
Today the 23rd and our morning mandatory surf check on the Outer reefs of Tuban was showing wave height still only in the 2-3ft+ sector. The tide at the time (6.45AM) was still running out and I do suspect that as it starts to run back in we might see a little more pulse in wave height. Surfing conditions at the time were clean and glassy with the wind pretty much non existent.
So for another change and they say a change is as good as a holiday right. I got Ketut to take a run down to the Southern end of the island to Bali’s premier surfing location, yes sir Uluwatu. Ketut has phoned through calling in wave height hitting all three main sections from Temple’s down through to the Racetrack in the 3-4ft+ sector. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with just a light off shore Easterly wind starting to come up. Ketut reckoned there were a few nice waves coming through for the 60 odd surfers spread through the line ups at 8.30AM.
The next tide today over here in going to be a 1.9mtr High around 1.30PM
We are also just about right in the middle of the Moon phase between Full and New so don’t expect to see too much tidal range over the coming days. Next phase will be a Full Moon on the 30th of July.
Weather wise outside we do have a mostly blue sky here in Tuban but I can see some solid cloud banks further down to the South. Temperature wise right now at 10.00AM the mercury is sitting on 27 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is a 78%. Wind direction is now coming out of the East at 3-6knot.
Denpasar airport up date, I do believe Bali’s airport is operational today and flights coming in and out. But on going cancellations from some Aussie budget flights. Remember if you bought your ticket to Bali after the volcano problem started you are not covered by airline insurance.
Travel tip, when you use an ATM here in Bali make sure there are no suspect characters hanging around, if there is ask them to move away. Also in Indonesia when you make a withdrawal from an ATM your cash comes out before your card, so remember to wait for your card before going to spend that money, it’s easy to forget especially when your used to your card coming out before the cash.
I’ve also had some solid advice on this issue from a long time baliwaves viewer reminding me about the secure value of also having back up traveler cheques. These never expire so if you don’t use them they are always valid next trip(s) and the importance of having two different ATM cards if one is lost or stolen. Thanks Dave this is good sound advice bro and we hope it saves some people some cash flow problems.
