BALI / INDONESIA
20th November 2015
Hi peeps and welcome to the weekend here on the baliwaves (The original Bali surf report website since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from here on your first choice tropical surfing holiday destination, Bali.
Alright then, yesterday morning we were again up way before the sparrows and making our way up the coast looking for some clean and un crowded waves. We knew there wasn’t much swell happening in Indonesia, that’s why we were on the mission. We pulled into our primary destination of Balian and were stoked to see some nice 2-4 footers peeling off left and right from the A frame peak. But before we could slip into our boardies we were told we were not allowed to surf here. Every visitor and even locals were not allowed in the water today due to a Russian surfing contest that had the whole area roped off. That was a bummer and everyone was a little bummed out.
So back in the car and we drove another half an hour further up the coast to Medewi, no problem. Pulling into the car park there wasn’t any 4 footers in sight but there were some perfect little lines in the waist to chest high range peeling off for almost 100mtrs. No contest and plenty of friendly locals at Medewi for a 3hr session with 6 surfers in the water, so for making the effort and the long drive it was justified. Driving back to home we did get stopped by a police check for all vehicle (being the main route Bali – Java) but our paper work was all in order and we were back on the road.
Weather wise there was pretty well just blue sky and sun shine up on the West Coast of Bali yesterday for us.
Ok crew the time has now just gone 5.40AM here in Bali and it’s time of the morning when we have to throw the boards back on the car and go find some more waves. Fingers crossed we might even see a little fresh swell out the today.
Hi ya Slim. Great to check in and see ya daily surf reports from da Magic Island.gives me my surf fix for the week.Keep up the great work.
Gee that woulda been a great contest to watch at Balian. Is it webcast on the ASP site?I’m sure Vladmir,Yuri and Co were all ripping up there.Such a great surfing nation with all the old values of the surfing culture.Along with all those European countries would make a great team event,I do notice the great styles they all have.
Cheers Slim.Keep BWs Pumpin.
That photo of the guy standing on one foot (balancing on the red mal) …, I reckon that would have been the highest scoring manoeuvre from the Russian contest. I cant believe those Russians actually had the hide to tell other visiting surfers they cant go surfing “IN BALI” …, I wonder how much bribery money they paid to pull that scam off . IMO there are just some things that money should not be able to buy.
Just got back from a month in beautiful Bali and spent 10 days at Balian. Yes the Russians are definitely there in numbers . Can’t believe they’ve closed the beach for a competition though. Could be a bit of carnage in the water after a night on the vodka.
