BALI / INDONESIA
8th – 9th – 10th March 2016
Hello surfers and welcome back to your baliwaves (keeping you tuned into the Bali surfing scene since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination called Bali.
Yeewww Happy Birthday to my boy Wayan Ray who has turned 8 years old today !!!
Ok so as you all would know by now yesterday was Bali’s special day called Nypie (Hari Raya Nypie). The day when the whole island is supposed to shut down, remain in doors, no surfing, no lights and no noise. Including the airport, tv and radio broad casts, no traffic, no work a total nothing. And I love it, a welcomed day off to be at home with just the family. So hence we didn’t post a thing yesterday in respect for Bali’s Hindu population. Slim himself had his religion officially changed from Catholic to Hindu many years ago and is also a full “Banjar Adat” member of his families village here in Bali.
How ever the day before we made the road trip up the West Coast of Bali, back to Medewi knowing we were going to score some nice un crowded waves. So we set off before dawn, as usual, and arrived on location just after the dawn to find some perfectly shaped little waves in the chest to over head class with a light off shore wind. Crowd wise we did ok too, with only 9 other surfers in the water at the time. We also timed our drive back home pretty well perfectly and missed all the afternoon traffic.
So please find enclosed in today’s 70+ photo gallery the last 30 photos in the gallery Ketut shot out of the back seat of the car on the way home and has quite a few of the “Ogoh Ogoh” monsters. We also got caught up in a “Melasti” celebration just outside of Tabanan on the way home so for the 10 minutes we were there I was streaming it live on our Periscope App, make sure you get this app on your phone and check our live broadcasts from all over Bali. Today I was actually streaming live from right in front of Keramas while it was cranking through well over head tube rides, Periscope / baliwaves get on it !
Right like I just mentioned, today we were over on Bali’s East Coast blasting away with our 1000mm fixed lens and 25mp camera. The surf was cranking, clean and glassy surfing conditions and an un usually light crowd is what went down. We’d get those photos edited for you to check out ASAP so make sure you hang around on Bali’s original surf report website.
Plus we also have another short story from our chief yarn teller Mr Col Decosta to load up, Plusssss a little something from our friends surf camp up in South Sumatra to show you as well. All the more reason to stick around and take a good look through the baliwaves, it’s massive !
Weather wise today it’s just been straight up, hot and sunny. But right now at 3.15PM there the sky has gone overcast on us and we might even be in for a few drops of rain later this afternoon.

Its awesome your in the banjar Slim, and that you have really immersed yourself into the Balinese culture unlike the many other tax cheating photographers that come to Bali and shoot photos to sell to magazines on tourist visa’s. Is there anyway I can make a donation to this awesome website baliwaves to help out with some new camera equipment or computers. Like I say in every comment I just love tuning into this awesome website. Love your work Slim
