BALI / INDONESIA
12th October 2016
Hello surfers and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves (keeping you in touch with Bali since back when the internet was born) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on your home away from home, Bali.
Ok so this mornings surf check on the Outer reefs of Tuban was showing wave height to be still hanging around in the 2-4ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The tide was in at the time but with the wind coming out of the WNW it was a little bit wonky out there.
I was hoping for the SE Tradewind to kick in this morning and made my way down to the Southern end of the island to Uluwatu. I never arrived until 8.30AM due to the worst traffic I have ever seen down on the bukit, would have matched Seminyak weekend traffic easy. But it is good to see all the locals doing well down at Uluwatu these days.
Surf wise at Ulu wave height was mainly coming through in the chest to over head class with a couple of bigger set waves hitting the Main Peak and Temples. Conditions were ordinary though with the wind varying from light NW to light SW and and on shore. And for mid October there would have been around 100+ surfers spread from Temple’s down through to the top of the Racetrack (around 700mtrs).
Driving home past Padang Padang and Impossibles there was only 1-2ft waves breaking on the top end of Impossible’s and virtually flat on Padang Padang.
Weather wise as it shows in most of the photos we had a mainly cloudy morning down on the bukit with some sunny patches.
I’ve been saying this for a long time now on the baliwaves. About how dangerous it is riding motorbikes / scooters in Bali. Well this morning within 10 mins of each other I saw 2 different motor bike accidents with westerners down on the ground. Maybe 15 – 20yrs ago it was safe and cool to cruise around on motor bikes but back then there wasn’t a fraction of the traffic there is these days. Hire a car or a driver if you want to go the distance and be safe.
I’ve also loaded a new short story from our resident writer Colin Decosta onto the baliwaves so scroll down and check it out.
