BALI / INDONESIA

Hello friends and thanks for tuning again into the baliwaves. Hey and how about showing some love and take a look at the flashing banner over to the right of this. We are hoping to raise some cash so we can get some new camera equipment and helping you save some money at the same time. We’ve been doing our part here at baliwaves since ’99 bringing you a little bit of Bali each day, so show some love if you can.
Well with just 5 days to go of this 8 week campaign left to run we have managed to scrape up just over AU$1,350.00 from our target of AU$6,000.00 I’d like to give the 24 people out of our average 100,000 viewers per month who did show some love a huge thank you.
I thought I’d take a semi early run over to the East coast this morning and see what was happening at Keramas, seeing as though a friend had been calling hardly any surfers over there the last few days. As it shows in our new photo gallery today there were in fact some very nice waves coming through, and with a clean off shore wind. But as for low numbers in the water my head count came up just short of 30 on a break that can support around 20 at the most before tempers usually start to flare. I was also lucky that I arrived when I did because 30 minutes later and the wind shifted to the East and cross / on shore at Keramas. Wave height at first was in the 2-4ft+ class then backing off into the 2-3ft range as the tide rolled out.
I always cut across the “new” toll road when I hit the East coast to save some time and it was good to see the planes taking off into the East again on the way back to Tuban. BTW the Toll road and the old road are both around 5.5kms in length but because it costs Rp11,000 to pass each way you don’t get much traffic on it at all and cruising speed is up to 80 – 90kmh (It’s a 4 laned super highway for those 5k’s). Now that is almost light speed here in Bali compared to the usual stop go 0 – 50 clicks an hour on the old road and thick traffic.
My crew here at home opted to surf Kuta Reef today and they reckon there were some fun waist to shoulder high waves that they shared with a few boat loads of Japanese surfers, Surfing conditions were clean at the time before the wind swung around to the SW and then S later this afternoon.
Our Baliwaves SurfCam was also showing some clean lines breaking on Impossible’s early this morning and it didn’t look like there were any surfers in the water at 6.30AM. Nb. The time clock is stuck on Sydney time so minus 3hrs with daylight saving.
Weather wise it was a mostly overcast morning here in Bali and on the drive back home it started raining as I got near Sanur and pretty much has been raining off and on most of the day. Temperature wise it didn’t stop the mercury from reaching 34 degree’s Celsius with the Humidity up in the 80’s. Right now at 5.45PM it’s still intermittently raining but hopefully we will see some blue sky tomorrow.
