BALI / INDONESIA
21st – 22nd May 2017
Hi folks and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves (keeping you in touch with Indonesia’s best locations since back in 1999) for our latest news and hard to beat views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the best value for hard earned tropical surfing holiday dollar destination of Bali.
Ok so today’s photo gallery has got something for everyone, from smoking line ups, sunsets, barrels, fishing and even a few small waves thrown in, yes sir Bali is the one destination that has it all.
On the 21st we were chasing waves over on the East Coast and after a couple of pit stops we ended up surfing some 1-3 footers at the ever popular Keramas. It was a bit small and a little bit in consistent but it was a surf and the water was fine. Crowd wise there were only a hand full of surfers which made it all the easier.
Yesterday the 22nd and again we headed for the East coast trying to get an early in as the sun was coming up. But after our primary was showing wonky but solid 3-5ft slabs with the wind just starting to show up outta the East we high tailed it back to West Coast and settled in at 4-6ft (over head to tripple head high plus) Balangan. We picked Balangan as she’s usually got a mellow crew in the water and we were on the money with some long peeling waves up to 200mtrs between the nasty clean up set waves. Crowd wise it was mellow, great scenery on the beach for us normal guys and the food and friendly service is always easy to take at Hendra Warung.
The only negative we had surfing yesterday was the fricken stinging itching jelly fish that were in plague proportions. I could only stand 1.5hrs of it before having to flee to shore and try and shower it off.
The owner of Hendra warung on Balangan beach was also very up set after recieving the news that all warungs on the beach at Balangan were going to be bulldozed. Now if this is true and I bloody well hope it’s not it could only mean big money going into someone’s pocket and further development is on the way, it will be a sad day for everyone. Fingers crossed it don’t happen.
Weather wise down at Balangan it was hot and sunny and another perfect beach day.
I’ve also thrown a few photos of my fishing buddy Mr Wayan in this gallery. Now with our Bali fishing season kicking in there are huge schools of surface feeding pelagic fish starting to arrive. So if any of you surfer / fisho’s want to come and experience some Balinese sport fishing just contact us here at baliwaves and we’ll get you hooked up. My traditional 7.5mtr double outrigger boat is ready to go so lets get out there soon.
Today the 23rd of May and our morning surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was showing wave height to have backed down into the 2-4ft zone between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with the wind still light out of the East at 7.00AM.
Our man Ketut has gone for a run back over to Keramas this morning and has called in saying that it was cranking out tube rides up to double head high with clean and glassy conditions @ 8.30AM. Stay tuned for the photos when Ketut gets back.
Swell Outlook for this coming week is looking red hot. Wave height will slowly back down through until the 26th when Bali will get slammed by another solid swell and everywhere is going to be pumping out perfect waves. for a couple of days then the month of May will go out with another new swell that is in transit for the 31st or there abouts. So if you haven’t got any ravel plans ready yet ya had better get ya finger out.
Today is going to be a long day for Slim with the funeral / cremation of another good friend who has been lost way too early in his young life.
I’ve also down a quick promo for Indonesian Explorer’s Mike and Bill Boyum who opened up Bali and G-Land for us later day surfers so make sure you check that out down in our news feed.
Just love this baliwaves website it’s the best on the net for us normal surfers who have families and children just like our parents and grand parents did.
