Clive’s background in training is eclectic. He is currently an Australian Sports council registered Strength and Conditioning Coach and a Professional level Coach for the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association. He is a thinker and an innovator. Clive has come up with many new exercises/stretches, by not copying, but thinking laterally.
Clive has been in the fitness and training field for a long time and it’s his vast and comprehensive knowledge of training (in many sports, but especially surfing), that has attracted our attention and asked himn to come on board and offer his experience and expertise to everyone
A brief snapshot of Clive’s history;
Growing up in Cornwall he was a consistent England and UK rep. He also judged and organised small and major contests. His consistent judging led him to being selected as a Judge in the 1978 Gunston 500 Pro Contest. He moved to Australia in 1982 and soon became ensconced in the surfing scene of that time.
He judged the A.P.S.A. circuit. Judging at the first Billabong Pro he met a young up and coming junior and became his coach and mentor. This partnership led to Merrick Davis winning A World Pro-Am tile and 2 x Australian Pro-Am crowns. In the late 80s he was Kirra Surfriders Coach, training some of the best Gold Coast surfers and also won The Senior Men’s title at Kirra Surfriders.
Moving to Manly in 1990 he became Queencliff Boardriders Coach and got 3rd in the Sydney masters at age 35. He then got embroiled in the Fitness Industry, running and designing 90% of one of Australia’s training facilities. Along the way training Elite athletes including tour prep for Layne Beachley (4th world title), Olympic Volley-Baller Liane Fenwick, Skier Zali Steggal, Pro surfer Rob Bain, top Australian Guitar Player Ian Moss and many more.
Clive has trained and advised people in myriad sports, surfing, cycling, beach volleyball. Hockey, F1 Powerboat racing, tennis, Yachting, running, rugby and more. Since the 90s he has lectured both in Australia and overseas, taught for T.A.F.E. and Major RTOs (including 12 years of teaching on Personal training Courses), which included writing the lectures/modules.
We look forward to hearing and learning from Clive’s wisdom and experience, spanning over 40 years of training to the highest level.
Clive has accomplished a lot more to date and is still a very competent surfer and professional musician. So stay tuned to the baliwaves and don’t be afraid to “ask Clive”

I have a Gym and training room on the Bukit near Dreamland gates. Its fully set up, we want to do surf Fitness training 3 times a week.
Do you know of any surf fitness trainers who would be keen?
Thanks Andy
Hi Andy sorry for the delay bro I’ve sent you an email this morning
Hi Andy,
I periodically visit Slim in Bali. When I do, if you’d like some one to one help, or want to run a workshop for Trainers, I’d be more than happy to help.
Kindest regards, Clive.
