BALI / INDONESIA
24th – 25th April 2018
Hello everyone and than ks for dropping into the baliwaves (keeping you in touch with Bali’s surfing scene since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Ok so our current photo gallery that we have loaded up this morning was taken at Uluwatu on the 23rd. Very testing conditions with very big waves, lots of water was moving and and less than ideal tide range. It was a very sad day for many people and our deepest sympathies go out to the surfer who lost his life this day family and friends. To say say the least those type of surfing conditions at Uluwatu were extremely dangerous to begin with and with Uluwatu’s one way out and way way back in set up and cliff faces along the shore line not helping at all.
It would be nice too see some sort of memorial at Uluwatu as a tribute to all the surfers that rode their last waves at this iconic location, and a reminder to all who venture out of the power and presence at Uluwatu.
Yesterday the 24th and sorry but I was off island taking care of some family business. It was a heck of a long day for me, but gotta do what we gotta do right. A couple of our friends staying with us said they surfed at Airport Right and had some very nice but very shallow waves. I’d have to agree that the right hander is probably one of the best, if not the best right hander on the island of Bali and well worth a try when the conditions line up just right.
This morning the 25th and Cheers to everyone celebrating ANZAC day around the World as a memorial to all our Veterans that made the ultimate sacrifice through the World Wars 1 and 2 against the terrible aggressors of those times.
Surf wise here in Bali and our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer reefs of Tuban was showing wave height to be still hanging around in the head to well over head high range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions at the time were a bit wonky with an early morning high tide and a light and variable on shore wind. Conditions will improve ten fold when the ESE – SE TRadewind starts to kick in and tidy op the waves.
The next tide today here in Bali will be a 0.9mtr Low at 1.16PM, still not much tidal range yet as we are just passing through the middle of the Moon phase. The phase will in fact be a Full Moon coming up on the 30th of April.
Looking at the swell predictions, if they hold true we should see another moderate swell punch into Indonesia on the 27th and then backed up with another one on the 29th. Looking further out into the Indian Ocean and there is plenty of activity as usual the month of May will be delivering more big waves to Bali.
Weather wise outside this morning and clear sailing so far with a nice blue sky. Temperature wise at 8.00AM the mercury was already on 28 degree’s Celsius and should easily bust into the 30’s by midday. The wind is also just starting to kick in a little and should increase in strength out of the ESE – SE as the morning gets older.
Nice work on the gallery’s Slim, your doing a top job, much appreciated mate.
