BALI / Indonesia
21st – 22nd June 2018
Hello folks and welcome back to the baliwaves (keeping Bali surf reports real since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions. From right here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Just to help fill in some gaps here’s another solid photo gallery from were we surfed on Thursday morning down on the Southern end of Bali at Balangan. Some nice waves and hardly any surfers in the water on the lower end of the tide.
Ok well things were going great 2 days ago, finishing off Thursday afternoon with a late arvo surf out at our local Kuta Reef with perfect 3-4 footers winding off for at least 100mtrs. So the next morning we thought we’d sneak back out there after an alcohol free and early night. The plan went ahead, but around 1.30AM I woke up with the need to dash to the bathroom, that continued like clock work all night. The next morning I was still feeling up for a surf (surf or die) but wave height had dropped off a notch and only leaving us 2-3 footers, which were still good fun to say the least. Half way through the session The shit hit the fan, so I had to flag down a friend in a passing boat and head back to shore. From there things just got worse and worse with nausea and spewing thrown in. I spent the rest of Friday moaning and groaning in bed and the bathroom.
With much relief this morning I’m feeling a lot better and able to sit in front of this lap top and do a little bit. Sorry if I’ve given TMI but the moral of the story here is this. If your eating anything in Bali and it doesn’t taste right don’t eat anymore of it, if it tastes good it’s good if it tastes bad you will get sick if you eat it.
Ketut’s 7.00AM surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban this morning was showing wave height to have backed off a bit more with only 1-3 foot waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Middle reef picking up the bigger head high set waves. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with the wind coming lightly out of the East.
Talking about the Outer Reefs of Tuban, just an up date on what they have done to our perfect (before) little beach that has sheltered the local fishermen and dealt out nothing but hospitality to all the visiting surfers, ferrying them out to the waves and then providing shelter in the cozy little warungs. Well like I mentioned before the warungs were pulled down to make way for a car park, the warungs have now relocated right where our fishing boats were where we could work on our boats and nets and chill out. The trees have been cut down. Now the latest brain wave is that someone is building a massive statue and fountain right out in the middle of the sand on the beach. It’s going to be real interesting to see how it all pans out and what the real bottom line is all about.
I’ve asked our man to take the camera equipment down to Uluwatu this morning so hopefully we’ll see some red hot photos later this afternoon on the baliwaves, so stay tuned to Bali’s original surf report website.
Weather wise here in South Kuta this morning we have a mainly blue sky, right now at 8.50AM the temperature is starting to warm up at 28 degree’s Celsius. Wind direction is coming out of the East and has picked up a bit to around the 8knot mark and will probably keep getting stronger all morning. BTW A friend called through from Sanur on the East coast earlier and said they had some early morning rain.
Ok crew I’ve just about had enough computer for now but before I shut her down we have more G-Land photos and report plus another mega body boarding photo gallery to lad up first.
We have also loaded the latest Press Release direct from RipCurl on the up coming Padang Padang RipCurl Cup 2018. It’s got all the info and schedule with links so check that out and stay tuned for more on The Cup.
We would also like to welcome aboard the famous Dreamweaver surf charter boat that runs the only 7 day 3 island (Lembongan, Lombok & Sumbawa) surfing charters to baliwaves.com. Once apon a time these 7 days surf charters were the best value on offer and a must do surf trip, but due to some shonky operators they went silent. But the Dreamweaver charter boat is still delivering groups (private or mixed) to some of the best waves and most destinations a 7 day surf trip can. Anyone wanting to jump on the next trip 7 day / 3 island boat charter leaving on the 3rd of July contact me and we will see what we can do for you.
