BALI / INDONESIA
24th – 25th October 2018
Hi people and welcome back to the baliwaves (keeping you up to date with Bali’s surfing scene since all the way back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views. From right here on the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Well last week sure did rocket through and here we are at Friday again with the weekend just around the corner. We have been surfing just about everywhere over the last 7 days, both up and down both of Bali’s wave riddled coastlines in search of perfect waves. So if that’s what you want in your next surfing holiday make sure CONTACT us and we’ll do our best to help out.
This morning’s photo gallery was shot way up the West side of the island at Medewi. We did make a stop off at Balian before hand but due to a fresh new swell hitting Bali it was just too washy and loaded with rip currents for our liking. So as it shows Medewi had some long and clean waves peeling off from the point in the over head class. Some were going all the way to the car park with clean and glassy conditions that lasted through until maybe 9.30AM. We arrived while the tide was still running in so crowd levels were pretty good, but as soon as the rocks were covered I couldn’t believe how many 20 – 30yr old Europeans learning to surf on long boards were in the line up creating havoc. The worst thing was that even out on the point a lot of them were being pushed into waves like torpedo’s. By far the biggest congregation of kooks with absolutely no idea of any surfing etiquette I’ve ever seen.
Weather wise it was just another perfect hot and sunny day in Bali.
I know it must be fantastic for some one who comes from a mostly land locked country to be in Bali and out in the ocean on a surfboard. But I really think they should do a reality check and not be trying to learn to surf (standing prone in the Quasimodo position, being unable to turn or navigate through a crowd of real surfers) in over head waves. Bali’s waves are being over crowded with these type of learner surfer and making it real dangerous for everyone that is in the water. So I think it’s everyone’s responsibility to talk to these people and explain some good old friendly surf etiquette.
Yesterday the 25th and we were over on the East Coast and it was absolutely cranking and 2 of the locations were at. 3-5 footers with clean off shore wind to glassy conditions. As soon as this report is on line I’m going to start editing some of the 700 photos that Ketut took and get them on line for or Friday Photo Fry. So make sure you stay tuned right here to the original Bali surf report website, but do try and get some work done as well ok.

Thanks for all the great reports over the years.

for sure, learners are a real hazard. you’d think the surf schools would teach them something: to stay out of the way, say. also, they should always start out on soft boards.
