BALI / INDONESIA
15th January 2019
Hello surfers and welcome back to your baliwaves (your eye’s on the waves here in Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views. From right here on the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
So this morning we were hoping for some new swell to start kicking in and we were up early and in position and waiting at 6.00AM. We though with more swell our old favorite Serangan would be pumping and there wouldn’t be as many (semi) learners in the line up. But even when we got within eye sight we could see that there was already 6 boats parked out behind the line up and maybe 20+ surfers in the water.
At first wave height was only showing in the 2-3ft class (chest to head high) but as the tide started to run out before we knew it there were some perfect shaped 4 footers peeling off (well over head). Then when the just under double head high set waves came through the crowd had dropped from close to 50 back down to 30 and a lot more like it. The waves at Serangan were really cranking through for a good hour or so but seemed to back off as the tide got lower.
Ketut took a run up to Keramas as well this morning and reckoned it was only in the 4ft range. But Ketut’s 4ft is usually my 5ft haha. But I’ll check out his photos and share them with you asap ok.
Weather wise it was a mostly light overcast with some sunny breaks and right now at 5.20PM it’s still mostly overcast. Oh yeah one of the most wicked thunder and lightning storms directly over head last night, poor dogs were going off even when I brought them inside the house. Wind direction was WNW early then turned more West and brought home the stench from the Serangan rubbish dump out into the line up. That’s always been a good wind indicator at Serangan. The Chinese building their Chinese resorts on the island must be loving that..
Tomorrows swell forecast is showing another bump in wave height for now so I think I’ll leave my short board at home and take my 7’4″ instead of the 6’4″.
Ok stay tuned right here with the original Bali surf report for more surfing news and up dates as it happens.

Its amazing to see that no one is on the beach at Serangan. Wow, nice deserted beach. The closure made a business opportunity for the boats to run out surfer to the break and at what cost?
Slim says
I think at the cost of the Balinese loosing another piece of their island to Chinese ownership…. it’s ok that surfers can pay an extra Rp100K to still surf their and the boat guys are making good money. But no access by road means no Balinese families can access this once very popular family beach with it’s clean sand and protected shoreline for swimming, when big money changes hands no one thinks of the effects on the lokal population.
