BALI / INDONESIA
28th – 29th June 2019
Hello surfers and lovers of Bali and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (Bringing you all the good things from Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions here on the island of the Gods, and the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Ok well it’s been a pretty hectic past couple of days that’s just gone down and everything almost back to normal again for us. On the 28th we were on location at Padang Padang to see the final deciding heats that decided which 4 local surfers were going to gain a start in this years RipCurl Padang Padang Cup. As it shows in this first run of photos there were some solid sets hitting Padang Padang and it only got bigger and bigger as the afternoon drew on. So spectacular tube riding with all the boys surfers throwing it all on the line. A lot of the smaller waves were pinching shut and swallowing up the riders but the bigger set waves you could have driven a truck through.
We spent 5 hrs down perched half way down the cliff and shot so many photos and a tonne of video footage. We will keep loading more photos from the finals as we get a chance and hopefully I’ll even get to down load the video footage later today as well. But don’t worry it’s all coming ASAP.
Yesterday the 29th and the waves were still smashing through here in Bali. I had reports of some 10-12ft sets hitting Uluwatu’s Bombie and Outside Corner sections, wash outs up at Medewi. here on the Outer Reefs of Tuban it was pretty well awash with some solid sets closing out the channel at Airports. While Kuta Reef was also washing through as well. Out in the legian Bay on “Karang Tengah” it was breaking way way out in the middle as well and would have been washing machine stuff along the beach breaks.
We ended up taking a run up to Magic Point early in the morning but the swell wasn’t getting in there so settled on driving a little further up the coast to Keramas were it was also only just in the head to double head high class.
This morning the 30th and its settled right down with our 7.00AM surf check on the Outer Reefs showing wave height in the 3-5ft range breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport left. The wind was light cross shore out of the NNE but now at 9.35am the ESE Tradey is starting to kick in with off shore wind. A friend has just messaged through from down at Uluwatu and said that it’s dropped back into the 5-6ft class on the Peak
Weather wise outside at the moment there is some solid cloud banks looking to the South but we still have mostly blue sky here in South Kuta. The high tide has just passed around 9.00AM.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is showing wave height to continue to drop off through today and into tomorrow, but we can still expect some nice waves around to start off our week here in Bali. Wind will more than likely be light and variable early before the ESE Trade Wind kicks in around 9-10am.
Travel Tip #76251
Please take care and never ever leave any valuables in your car or under your motorbike seat as I’ve heard more reports of thieves plying their trade along some of the more secluded parking areas around Bali.
UP DATE, I have just received another email from a long term Bali surfer who had his motor cycle seat broken into and his phone and cash removed from the Impossible’s area. Sad to hear so make sure if your traveling solo do not bring valuables to the beach and give these bastard work.
You might have also noticed a new sponsor on our home page (just above the surf report photos) a big welcome aboard to our old friends at SURFRESQ. These guys have a new device that will put your broken leg rope back together in seconds and will become a standard part of your surfing kit in the future. Check it out and see for yourself.
