TRIALS SET TO FINISH FRIDAY AT PADANG PADANG
Bali, Indonesia – Monday, 24 June 2019: The answer to the mystery will finally be revealed on Sunday when Rip Curl officially announces the 16 surfers – eight of Indonesia’s best and eight of the world’s greatest barrel wranglers – invited to compete for the 2019 Rip Curl Cup at Padang Padang.
The 16 surfer invitations and opening round heat draw will be announced at the Rip Curl Cup Opening Ceremony on Sunday, 30th of June at Padang Padang. Several of the world’s best tube riders will be on hand Sunday for the gathering. All are welcome to attend the traditional festivities at Padang Padang to bless the event with good waves and pray for the safety of the competing athletes.
The Rip Curl Cup Opening Ceremony marks the start of the one-month event holding period, which runs for the full month of July. The Opening Ceremony celebration will begin promptly at 3 PM, followed by a meet and greet with the surfers and contest organizers. The evening will conclude with a traditional Balinese Kecak dance performance.
Meanwhile, The Local Trials – which already completed Rounds 1 & 2 at Padang Padang earlier in June – are scheduled to conclude on Friday, 28th of June at Padang Padang to determine the final four remaining Indonesian surfers invited to the main event. A very large and powerful swell is forecast to hit Bali on Friday and should make for excellent surf conditions at Padang Padang to complete the quarters, semis and finals of the Local Trials.
The Local Trials will not be broadcast live, however fans in Bali will want to arrive at Padang Padang beach early on Friday in order to secure a good spot to watch the action in person.
Before the Opening Ceremony starts, GoPro as one of the sponsors will hold a workshop at Rip Curl Padang Padang store on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at 2pm. All fans or media who want to attend this workshop, please register yourself thru the link below:

About Rip Curl – The Ultimate Surfing Company
Rip Curl is one of the world’s most recognized and respected brands, consistently at the forefront of the surf and snow scenes since its creation in the late 1960s.
Started by Brian Singer and Doug ‘Claw’ Warbrick in the coastal Australian town of Torquay in 1969, Rip Curl was initially a vehicle for the perfect lifestyle – a never-ending search by two mates for perfect waves, adventure and the fun that inevitably follows. They called it “The Search.”
The Search is the driving force that led to the creation of Rip Curl. It’s the one true thing that Rip Curl has that no one else does and it lives in the spirit of everything the Rip Curl crew do. It’s what makes Rip Curl unique. It defines who we are.
Rip Curl remains a company built by surfers for surfers. Endeavoring to make the best products, run the best events, support the best athletes, deliver the best customer service, communicate the best brand message and socialize with the best crew of people helps Rip Curl hold a vision of being regarded as The Ultimate Surfing Company.
With 2x and reigning WSL World Champion Gabriel Medina, 3x WSL World Champion Mick Fanning, 2x WSL Women’s World Champion Tyler Wright, and fellow team riders Conner Coffin, Owen Wright, Mason Ho, Tom Curren, Matt Wilkinson, Nikki van Dijk, Bethany Hamilton and Alana Blanchard all surfing with Rip Curl, and a global events platform including the historic Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, Rip Curl Pro Portugal and the unique Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang, Rip Curl is the leader in professional surfing.
About The Rip Curl Cup
The Rip Curl Cup Invitational at Padang Padang is Indonesia’s longest-running and most prestigious surfing competition, and the only World Surf League invitational contest featuring the world’s greatest tuberiders alongside Indonesia’s best.
The 2019 Rip Curl Cup features one of the most exclusive fields in professional surfing: just 16 invited surfers – eight of Indonesia’s finest and eight of the world’s elite. The official invite list will be announced to the world on June 19th. The limited number of surfer invitations ensures this will be a “one-day, one-swell” event, increasing the likelihood of spectacular conditions and incredible performances. When contest directors determine an ideal Padang swell lining up in the Indian Ocean, the green light will be given and competitors will have 48 hours to make it to Bali’s Bukit Peninsula.
The waiting period for the 2019 Rip Curl Cup spans an entire month, from July 1-31, during the peak of Indonesia’s prime swell season, providing the event with the highest chance of scoring the spitting green barrels the Balinese Pipeline is world-famous for.
With an exciting lineup of invitees including Defending Champion Jack Robinson (AUS), Taj Burrow (AUS), Barron Mamiya (HAW) and Mason Ho (HAW) lining up to take on two-time champion and local kingpin Mega Semadhi (IND) and the rest of the Indonesian contingent, surf fans will be excited to get online and view all the action when Padang Padang turns on.
The 2019 Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang will be webcast live to the world at ripcurl.com. Fans can also visit the site to check real-time contest status and video updates from Bali.
