BALI / INDONESIA
15th – 16th July 2019
Hello surfers and lovers of Bali and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (Bringing you all the good things from Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions here on the island of the Gods, and the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
First of all to everyone worrying about friends or family here in Bali, this mornings Earth Quake happened out off East Java (not in Bali) but we certainly did feel the tremor from the 6.0 magnitude. Some parts of Bali felt it stronger than others but here in our old and strongly built home we hardly felt it. It was widely felt right across Bali as far away as the Northern end of our island in Karangasem. All good and I have not heard of any reports of injury except for a few old tiles that feel off a couple of old roofs, and I hope that’s as far as it did go.
Yesterday the 15th and as we mentioned we were down on the southern end of the island on the wave hunt and this is where we shot our current photo gallery. Our first visual from up the top of the cliff was looking good with only 3 surfers in the water (7.00am) and wave height in the chest to head high region. But by the time we got down into our fav warung there was already close to 20 in the water. But as expected in the small waves these days you just have to expect the surf schools out there where they shouldn’t be. There were still a few ok rides to be had and the surf schools usually only last for an hour or so anyway.
Today the 16th and our 7.00am surf check on the Outer reefs was showing wave height down in the 2-3ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The bigger head high sets were hitting Middle Reef. Surfing condtions at the time were clean with the ESE Trade wind just starting to build some mementum.
With the small waves and windy conditions we called a lay day and did some normal stuff like paying bike rego and yard cleaning etc etc.
Weather wise outside right now at 3.00pm the temp is still a warm 28C, Humidity at 68% and the UV index on 5. Wind direction is coming in hard out of the ESE with 30km/h gusts.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is looking to be a “ground Hog Day” pretty much the same as today in other words. 1-3ft+ waves depending on location, wave period is down to 6-7 seconds with fresh to strong ESE wind.
Further Out, hopefully by Thursday we should have some better sized waves around the island. Before our next BIG swell hits around the 21st-22nd, we’ll be keeping an eye on things and keep you up to scratch ok
