BALI / INDONESIA
17th – 18th August 2019
Hello surfers and lovers of Bali and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (Bringing you all the good things from Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions here on the island of the Gods, and the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Ok so yesterday the 17th and we spent the morning soaking up the sun and salt water down at the very easy on the eye location of Balangan Beach. As it shows in our latest photo gallery wave height was only in the 2-3ft range and as can be expected these days it was loaded with learners on long boards. But there were a few waves and fun to be had all the same. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with off shore wind provided by our Dry Season Trade wind.
Yesterday was also Indonesia’s Independence Day so pretty much the whole island was celebrating that special day. We were not exempt either and shared a few.. bintangs with our friends down the beach.
This morning the 18th and with bleary blood shot eye’s I did a surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban and was (for a change) happy to see only minimal swell showing between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Wave height was only in the 1-2ft range and the wind already strong off shore out of the ESE. So we will be taking it nice and easy today.
The next tide today will in fact be a 2.3mtr High at 11.12am.
Weather wise right now at 10.40am it’s another warm and sunny day here on the holiday island. The temperature is sitting on 27C, Humidity at 78% and UV index on 4. Wind direction is ESE with gusts up to 30km/h.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is looking good and we should see a slow but steady increase in wave height through the day. Light wind early in the morning before the ESE – SE Tradey kicks in mid morning.
Up Dates we have also loaded up for you peeps a fresh report and photos from G-Land thanks to our friends at Joyo’s G-Land Surf Camp. Plus there’s an awesome photo gallery and intro from The Hidden Bay Resort located up in the Mentawai Island Chain. Then we also have the run down on yesterdays Single Fin surfing contest that is running down at Uluwatu this weekend. So make sure you take a good look through the baliwaves and stay in the loop.
Travel Tip.
Now I constantly hear people everywhere say that when catching a TAXI in Bali make sure it’s a Bluebird. Well I tell you now all taxi’s in Bali are blue and of late there are some real scammers driving them. My advice when getting in a taxi is take a photo of the drivers ID that should be sitting on the dash board, then ask to turn on the meter if it’s not on. Two times now I have rode in taxi’s that have had “TAMPERED METERS” or meters that have been speeded up to rip you off. By taking the drivers ID photo you are letting them know that your not to be ripped off. Just last night coming home from dinner in Kuta my taxi’s meter was reading Rp100,000 for a normal on average Rp30,000 fare. When I said ok “you have two options, I pay you the 100K but then I take your photo and number plate and report you or I pay Rp25K” The driver shit himself and opted for the 25K option. Please beware of this type of BS going on around Kuta.
NB travelling to Bali then bringing CASH money is the way to go in high denominations. I used an ATM yesterday (Commonwealth Bank) and got a poorly rate of 1AU$=Rp8,990 Plus then there’s the risk of having your card skimmed. Cash is always best !
We have another item of interest loaded into our Real Estate page with a super deal on prime land at Watukurang, so make sure you check that out, perfect position for a surf camp or surf villa.
