BALI / INDONESIA
6th – 7th August 2019
Hello surfers and lovers of Bali and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (Bringing you all the good things from Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions here on the island of the Gods, and the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Yesterday the 6th and we thought we’d go for another run back up the coast to one of our long time fav locations of Medewi. Hitting the road by 5.20am in anticipation of the long and intense drive we made our first stop at Balian. Wave height at Balian was only in the 4-5ft+ class but breaking all over the place and totally out of character, so we jumped back in the car and pushed on for another 30mins to Medewi. By this time the tide was well and truelly out but the wind was still light and variable and the waves were rolling through in the chest to well over head high class. Surfing conditions stayed relatively clean and tidy through until around 9.30am when the ESE Tradewind made it’s way up the coast blowing cross / on shore here. Crowd wise it didn’t get to bad with only around 40 surfers spread through the line up which isn’t too bad for this day and age of surfing.
I’ve also thrown in a few photos of the Medewi fishermen doing their daily work in order to make ends meet and feed their families. Like most fishermen in Bali life can be tough when the fish are not around or bigger boats with bigger nets are around. But to make it even harder for this hard core bunch of fishermen is the fact that they have to deal with no open channel for them to get their boats in and out from shore. Every time they fish they deal with breaking waves to negotiate, there’s no sandy strip of beach to push these boats in to just lots of rocks in the shore line. But as it shows they all work as a team and get what has to be done, done.
Today the 7th and my 7.15am surf check on the Outer reefs of Tuban was only showing wave height breaking in the waist to head high at best. The tide was too low for Kuta Reef and Airports and still dropping at the time. Middle Reef did have a few surfers out there but at that size there wasn’t much shape to it. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy with the wind still light and variable.
The next tide today will be a 1.9mtr High at 2.14pm
Weather wise outside right now at 11.20pm there is a bit of cloud drifting through but still lots of blue dominating. The temperature is on 28C with the Humidity at 68%. UV index is on 8 so keep the sunscreen on. Wind direction is now coming out of the ESE with gusts up to 20km/h.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is saying to expect similar size waves as today. Light variable wind early before the ESE Tradey kicks around mid morning.
