BALI / INDONESIA
16th August 2019
Hello surfers and lovers of Bali and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (Bringing you all the good things from Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions here on the island of the Gods, and the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Right then, this morning we waited until the tide hit the perfect increment and jumped in one of the reef taxi’s and bee lined it for Airport left. Normally we would surf my local Kuta Reef but the crowds of learners out there lately has been too hectic. While Airports is a shorter wave it doesn’t draw the push in crowd like KR seems to be attracting.
Wave height this morning was steady in the head high class but as the tide kept filling in it was soon a solid 4ft with a couple of bigger clean up sets. Surfing conditions at first were clean with the ESE Trade wind blowing straight off shore with gusts at times up to 29km/h+.
Weather wise today it’s been another hot and sunny day here on the holiday island. Right now at 2.45pm the temperature is still a warm 28C with the Humidity at 68%, the UV index is on 2. Wind direction is now more SE with gusts up to 30km/h.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling for similar sized waves and pretty much the same wind wise.
Long Range Surf Forecast is calling for a new medium size swell to hit our part of Indo around the 18th and then sometime on the 21st a solid SW-SSW swell will smack into Bali so be prepared for some big stuff for a few days. This swell on the 21st will be lighting up all of Indonesia and the boat charter boys up in the Ments better batten down the hatches.
Travel Tip.
Now I constantly hear people everywhere say that when catching a TAXI in Bali make sure it’s a Bluebird. Well I tell you now all taxi’s in Bali are blue and of late there are some real scammers driving them. My advice when getting in a taxi is take a photo of the drivers ID that should be sitting on the dash board, then ask to turn on the meter if it’s not on. Two times now I have rode in taxi’s that have had “TAMPERED METERS” or meters that have been speed ed up to rip you off. By taking the drivers ID photo you are letting them know that your not to be ripped off. Just last night coming home from dinner in Kuta my taxi’s meter was reading Rp100,000 for a normal on average Rp30,000 fare. When I said ok “you have two options, I pay you the 100K but then I take your photo and number plate and report you or I pay Rp25K” The driver shit himself and opted for the 25K option. Please beware of this type of BS going on around Kuta.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Bali, –1US$=Rp14.100 –1AU$=Rp9,500 —
NB travelling to Bali then bringing CASH money is the way to go in high denominations. I used an ATM yesterday (Commonwealth Bank) and got a poorly rate of 1AU$=Rp8,990 Plus then there’s the risk of having your card skimmed. Cash is always best !
