BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
21st – 22nd March 2020
Hello surfers (KEEP READING BELOW) and lovers of Bali and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (Bringing you all the good things from Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions here on the island of the Gods, and the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Yesterday morning the 21st I only made it down for a surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban around 7.30am and hung out with a couple of my Balinese fishing buddies for an hour or so before heading back home and self isolating with my family for the rest of the day. But there were a few waves and most of you would have seen my morning Video Surf report I posted on Twitter, Instagram and our FB pages. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left was in the 2-3ft range but with the wind already light on shore out of the West. There were surfers on all three of the main breaks and a large Korean surf school all over Kuta Reef. Nothing to really make an old surfer want to get out there.
Today the 21st and with rumors of good waves and big crowds up the coast at Canggu (what else is new you say). So I wanted to go up there for a look and sus out the street scene as well for our Bali Lock Down ??? info page we have created a few days back https://www.baliwaves.com/2020/03/bali-lock-down-corona-virus-march-2020/ I’ll try and get you another up date in there today if I get enough time, but all this running around today has burned me out. If it doesn’t happen today I’ll up date first thing tomorrow morning.
Well I do have to say the traffic was like going back in time 25yrs, no traffic snarls and numbers on the roads way way down compared to a few weeks back.
Surf wise up at Canggu this morning there were a few nice chest to head high plus waves breaking on all the breaks in the Echo beach to Pererenan area and no shortage of surfers. More like one of the most crowded sessions I’ve seen on the right hand river mouth of Pererenan. While looking back to Batu Bolong the new surf school learner surfer mecca of Bali there must have been at least 200 learners packed in like sardines, Social distancing not.
Weather wise it’s been a beautiful warm and sunny day here on the Island of the Gods again. Right now at 4.15pm there is some cloud drifting in and I’m sure we have not seen the last of the rainy season just yet. But for now the wind is fresh out of the East.
Today here in Bali we have “Melasti” ceremony’s happening all over Bali. Melasti is a Hindu cleansing / purification ceremony that is always held a few days out from our “Nypie Day” that is going down on the 25th of this month. All the way to Canggu and back there were Balinese in their Temple costume getting ready to participate in today’s ceremony.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Bali today –1US$=Rp15,700 –1AU$=Rp9,150 Hows that US dollar hey I wish I had a few.
