BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
30th May 2020
Firstly we do know from first hand experience how tough it is here in Bali with absolutely no support other than friends and family. We would also like to offer a free promotional service to any other small outfits / businesses that are surf related here in Indonesia and Australia. So in turn we have told all our sponsors that we will be waving any fee’s until things are getting back to normal again. Please contact us to see if your eligible for free promotion on baliwaves. Special thanks to our good friends that have kicked in some dollars to help my family and I keep food on our table, lights on and baliwaves.com being able to help keep you in the loop.
Hi friends and as always thanks for dropping in to the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999) Well we are still having to dig into our archives with no word as yet on the re opening of Bali’s beaches. The number of infections here is growing, mostly due to returning cruise ship workers transmuting to the community. But I’ll do a big up date on the Bali Corona Virus in our Bali Lock Down Blog pretty soon, so keep an eye out for that.
For today’s photo gallery I though I’d jump a head a few years (even though there’s still a tonne more photos in the 2010 folders) to Keramas for Bali’s first CT event the Oakley Pro in 2013. We had a Media invite for the event and were pretty excited to be there, in the beginning. The forecast was for pumping waves and perfect early morning conditions right through the event, Ketut and I dragged the 1000mm lens over there to get as close to the Pro’s as we could. To cut a long story short, even though it was great to be there for the first event it soon become a hard task with no shade and long days standing in the sun with our camera equipment, it was a lesson well learnt.
Ketut and I were there for the whole event right through to the final day. So I’ll post photos from each round over the next few up dates, this gallery is of the third round.
Lately here in Bali we have had some solid swell hit the reefs and beaches, coupled with some medium tides there was also quite a bit of erosion and damage at some beaches. There have been plenty of waves being surfed around the island, some locations have been locked down tightly and some have not. I’ve seen some insane video clips of local pros surfing a slab of a wave through the peak of the swell on the East side of the island. While here on the West there has been waves cranking and surfed from Kuta Reef right down to Padang Padang and Uluwatu. The wind how ever did favor the East Coast more being light and variable and tending Westerly. Today it seems to be tending back to the ESE.
Weather wise we have had a few solid afternoon and evening storms around the island and again last night. This morning we are back to a mostly blue sky and I reckon it’s about time the Dry Season kicks back in.
On a personal note I’ve still been working hard trying to get my two old traditional fishing boats water tight and sea worthy, slowly getting there and because my boats are on the beach right in front of Kuta Reef I do get to check out conditions. On the home front we have had some bad luck with the houses 30yr old gravity feed water tank cracking. So for the last 5 days we have been filling buckets of water from next door for all our water needs. Until it happens you don’t know just how hard iit is when no water comes out of the taps. I’m going to climb up there again later on seeing as the sun is out and try to patch her up with some resin and glass. My first attempt failed due to the wet weather and wet tank.
Ok everyone thanks again and catch you with another up date again soon
