BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
19th May 2020
Firstly we do know from first hand experience how tough it is here in Bali with absolutely no support other than friends and family. We would also like to offer a free promotional service to any other small outfits / businesses that are surf related here in Indonesia and Australia. So in turn we have told all our sponsors that we will be waving any fee’s until things are getting back to normal again. Please contact us to see if your eligible for free promotion on baliwaves. We are surfers doing this for our fellow surfers and will hopefully continuing to do our thing for many years to come.
Hello again friends and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves to keep the Bali fire burning bright. I did make it down to the beach for a “boat check” the day before yesterday and there were a few nice head high waves peeling through on Middle Reef. But the ESE – SE Trade wind has been howling the last week and it would have involved some serious red eye from the spray coming off the back of the waves. The Indian Ocean is alive at the moment and May is usually always one of the consistent swell months for waves right across Indonesia.
The Swell forecast charts are looking pretty colorful at the moment and there are a few variables out there. One website is calling 14ft waves but with an 8 sec period for the late tomorrow afternoon. I’ll get a better idea when I eye ball the waves later this arvo.
The Indian Ocean also has a big High pressure cell starting to move past Africa heading out towards the middle of the Indian. But even with that said Indonesia is still on track and going to light up on or around the 25th of May. The Mentawai Islands are in for a solid week of big waves from Nias down to South Sumatra.
But anyway the majority of surfers here in Bali are just trying to maintain their sanity with the Bali beach lock down. Fingers crossed in another 10 days or so we will be back surfing. By all reports in today the beach lock down has not stopped a lot of surfers from going surfing. Especially today with over 20 surfers in the water at 2-4ft Padang Padang and plenty in the water at Uluwatu as well. I can also imagine there would be a nice crowd out at Kuta Reef as well with the swell starting to push in.
Weather wise today we had some early heavy rain and it’s been pretty well just overcast all day, as it is still right now at 2.40pm. Wind wise it’s been very light and a little variable all day so far with the Trade wind taking a day off.
Ok peeps that’s me for this up date but stay tuned as we have plenty more in reserve to keep loading until we can get the camera gear back in action.
Times are extremely tough for us so If any of our friends can spare a dollar or two to help out please drop it in our PayPal account [email protected] it really will be a big help.
