BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
30th June – 1st July
Firstly we do know from first hand experience how tough it is here in Bali with absolutely no support other than friends and family. We would also like to offer a free promotional service to any other small outfits / businesses that are surf related here in Indonesia and Australia. So in turn we have told all our sponsors that we will be waving any fee’s until things are getting back to normal again. Please contact us to see if your eligible for free promotion on baliwaves. Special thanks to our good friends that have kicked in some dollars to help my family and I keep food on our table, lights on and baliwaves.com being able to help keep you in the loop.
baliwaves.com is happy to be able to give our friends at JOWA SURF a little love with some promo on us. As we mention above times are tough and we are here to help any small local business with a little more awareness through baliwaves.com
Hello surfers and thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves, the surf report with soul since back in 1999. Well I did try to get this up yesterday afternoon but due to just not enough hours in the day and keeping the peace here at home I couldn’t make it. But Here we go with a mega photo gallery featuring both the East and West Coasts of Bali. We do have a couple of new contributors with us and we will be telling you more about these people and what they have on offer here in Bali from time to time.
On the 30th of June my afternoon surf check was in my opinion showing a little bit more energy on the Outer Reefs. My morning check was showing a more lazy subdued looking 1-3ft (knee to head high) between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. While the late arvo surf check (no cold sun set beers for quite awhile) did look a lot more energetic and consistent and maybe even a few bigger set waves hitting Middle Reef. Perfectly on track for our predicted new swell that showed up right on sched.
Yesterday the 1st of July and I didn’t even bother with a surf check on the Outer Reefs, I was confident and wanted to get over to the East coast before the ESE Trade wind kicked in. As it shows in the bulk of our current photo gallery the East coast was cranking with a solid 3-4ft and maybe even a few double head high 5 footers. Surfing conditions were a little bit wonky at times but still some perfect and deep tube rides on offer for the hand full of surfers present (the new normal). The wind was a little variable but did eventually swing straight off shore out of the NNW as the tide started to run out. Even when I pulled down the 1000mm lens at 10.30am surfing conditions were still clean and glassy with only 4 surfers left in the water.
My afternoon surf check on the Outer reefs here in Tuban had plenty of swell showing between Airports and Kuta Reef with a strong off shore Easterly Trade wind hitting it. We also received a few photos from our friends down at Bingin at The Surferdream hotel. Plenty of surfers in the water and some sick waves hitting the reef, just about max size for Bingin. There’s also a couple of photos (phone) from a nice vantage point behind Uluwatu showing the Outside Racetrack section peeling off solidly, Thanks to Oolus of Bali Vietnamese / Indonesian Resto down at Uluwatu.
Weather wise yesterday it was too bad it was so cloudy and over cast over on the East Coast yesterday morning as my 1000mm needs a fair bit of light to deliver it’s best results. But it was what it was, mostly over cast with a few drops of rain before a warm and sunny afternoon back here on the West coast.
This morning the 2nd of July I haven’t been down for a surf check on the reefs yet but I would imagine there would still be plenty of swell hitting here on the West Coast. Maybe too much for some locations but maybe just right for other breaks. The Easterly Trade wind has been blowing since I got up at day break, currently around the 8-15knot and will more than likely get stronger through the afternoon. The sky is mostly blue and we will be heading for a temperature around 29 degree’s by early afternoon.
On the Swell prediction scene this next coming week is looking pretty much non stop. We should still have plenty of waves here in Bali but slowly dropping off through till the 5th. Then another solid system should light up all of Indonesia again that will keep proving waves right up to the 9th – 10th and then yet another medium swell arriving. Further out 2-3 days later we could be seeing a serious swell smashing into Bali. July usually does produce some big swells and so far it’s living up to it.
Ok friends stay safe, keep up the social distancing and make sure you put on a face mask if you go out into the public. It’s not a lot to ask and if we all do our bit it will be best for all of us. Don’t be one of the “self privileged” be a team player.
ATTENTION DEPARTMENT, On the Bali Aid cause our good friend Nicole Polley is organizing a worthy fundraiser that is targeting the needy. A great way for friends with friends here in Bali to lend a hand. Take a look at what Nicole and her friends are doing and maybe there is some one you know here in Bali that needs your help, The real reality of it is, if you know someone here in Bali through being on holiday then those people are battling to keep food on the table and the house lights on. Please if you can drop a couple of bucks into Nicole’s account. Nicole is helping a lot of people at ground level, I know personally as my family received a basic food relief package as well.
