BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
12th – 14th August 2020
Firstly, Special thanks to our good friends that have kicked in some dollars to help my family and I keep food on our table, lights on and baliwaves.com being able to help keep you in the loop. We do know from first hand experience how tough it is here in Bali with absolutely no support other than friends and family. So please take a look at the baliwaves support page up above this report and any help you can pass onto will be highly appreciated for a long time to come.
Hi folks and welcome back to the baliwaves (your eye’s here in Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news on surfing and weather conditions. Well it has been a little bit frustrating to say the least. On the 12th with a new swell and light and variable morning wind I took a run over to the East Coast to hopefully catch some action at Keramas. Arriving around 8.00AM to indeed find wave height had jumped up into the 4-5ft+ range, but only 2 surfers in the water and not many waves getting caught. I didn’t end up getting the camera out and was bummed by burning up my cars fuel and no photos.
Yesterday the 13th and wave height had already dropped off quite a bit. My surf check on the Outer reefs of Tuban only showing it in the 2-4ft class between Kuta Reef and Airport left. Not a lot of surfers out there, mainly just a few of the Tuban local surfers in the water. I’ve also thrown a few phone camera photos of how it looks along the beach here through the day time hours. The beach is pretty much deserted until after 5pm when the local domestic families make their ways down to the beach to wash away the stress.
Today the 14th and I thought I’d take a run up to the ever popular Canggu beach where I knew there would be surfers in the water and tube rides to be had. As it shows in today’s main photo gallery wave height was still a solid 4ft plus on the bigger sets hitting the Sandbar and Pererenan rights. Not your usual Canggu crowd either and most of the Sandbar warungs not open. Only 10 surfers on the Sandbar and another 8 on Pererenan’s river mouth rights. Surfing conditions were not too bad even though the wind was already starting to swing on shore when I arrived at 8.15am. The tide was on the run out and it was mostly dark and over cast with a few drops of rain thrown in.
Weather wise right now here in South Kuta at 2.30pm we have a mostly blue sky. The temperature is a warm 29 degree;s Celsius with the Humidity level at 71%. Wind direction is fresh out of the SE at 20km/h.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is showing wave height to hold similar to today at most locations, in fact it should be up and down slightly through till our next swell arrives around the 21st of this month. The wind should be light out of the East early before turning more to the SE by 8-9am.
On the Bali Covid-19 situation Bali still seems to be officially faring pretty good compared to our neighboring islands of Java and Lombok. The national infection cases continue’s to grow across the country. Not all of Indonesia or Bali relies on tourism but here in the South Kuta region of the island there is a lot of frustration, depression to be seen. With new reports that Indonesia will now not be re opening to International visitors / tourism until late 2020 at the earliest. It has already been 8 months of no income for many of us since the pandemic began, and still not a real clear end in sight yet. I think I can promise you that you will never ever hear of a local surfer complaining about crowded surf again.
Ok that’s about me for now but stay tuned here on the original Bali surf report website and we will do our best to keep the reports photos and video clips flowing.
