BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
15th – 19th August 2020

We do know from first hand experience how tough it is here in Bali with absolutely no support other than friends and family. Well I can’t believe how fast the time has gone since my last report. I do know on the 17th it was Indonesia’s Independence day. A public holiday and a day of celebrating as best as we could in these circumstances. Then yesterday the 18th I had to head out and try and get some food on the table with a fishing session (just 1 x 2kg fish but enough for the 6 mouths here at home)
Ok this morning I thought I’d get back on the bike and go take a look at Uluwatu. The last couple of trips down there I was skunked with no surfers in sight. But today with 4 foot of swell hitting the Main Peak and a fresh cross / off shore wind I was lucky to find a good crew in the water, more or less 8 surfers between 8.30am – 10.30am. Talking to an Aussie down in Surya Warung he said there were a few more in the water earlier and a few nice ones peeling down the Racetrack while the tide was lower. He said he surfed the Temple section with 1 other surfer. I was lucky enough to find local surfer Agus Setiwan in the water when I first arrived and managed to shoot his last wave before he split.
Pretty much the only people I saw hanging around down at Uluwatu this morning was a lone Aussie and myself and a couple of groups of Russians. Not many friendly hello’s to be had down there this morning.
Weather wise today it has been a mostly warm and sunny winters day here in Bali. Temperature wise the mercury peaked at 29 degree’s Celsius with the Humidity level reaching 66%. Wind direction has in fact been fresh out of the SSE most of the day but has swung a little more to the SE this afternoon.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is saying to expect slightly smaller waves and more fresh SSE – SE wind. Further out I think we will see another bump in wave height late on the 20th or on the 21st.
Ok friends that’s about me I need to go down and do an afternoon surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban (400mtrs from home). Thanks again for staying tuned here at the baliwaves and sorry I’m not up dating everyday. But due to necessity I need to keep fishing and keep putting food on our families table. But I’ll do my best and we should also have some reports coming in from North and South Sumatra soon.
