BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
11th March 2021
Thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999. We really are saddened that we can’t keep the on location daily report happening through these extremely hard times here in Bali, but we are doing our best. Sure, there are waves out there just about everyday of the year, somewhere in Bali is always pumping out waves. But the problems are that firstly there is a pandemic happening and Bali has not been exempt from the sickness and deaths that goes with that kind of stuff. Then there’s been really bad weather and when you couple that up with having to buy petrol to find those good waves. Time is one thing we do have, but cash to burn on petrol we don’t I’m sorry. Keeping my family feed and the bills paid have been our No.1 priority, just like most average families here in Bali.
Hello friends and we are extremely grateful to still be here at posting photos, videos and the usual surf and weather info so you can still get your Indo fix. My word it has been a tough haul and now we have well and truly passed the 12 month mark of no income due to none of you being here in Bali yet. Without your support through all this we would be in dire straights for sure. We still have at least another 6 months of this to get through so please don’t give up on us just yet. Anytime you can spare us a dollar we will be eternally grateful.
Well the weather has been on again off again the last week but it was great to see the sun back out today after another night of heavy rain here in the Kuta area (Tuban). Over the last week we have taken a trip down to Uluwatu and another trip back over to Keramas but both times skunked with no waves. But you may have noticed another new video clip we have thrown together featuring some nice waves from the East coast of Bali.
How ever today the 11th conditions were looking reasonably positive for a run up to Canggu, so that’s where we headed. I also wanted to see how my local mates were going after the fire that burnt a few of the warungs down to the ground. A couple of the warungs are still empty lots but it was good to see my good friend Putu owner of the “surfers bar” warung has started rebuilding and hoping to be back in operation by the end of the month.
I didn’t make it to Canggu until around 9.30am after dealing with some stubborn traffic and most of the traffic lights gangin up on me. So by the time I was in position with my 600mm the wind was just starting to show a little out of the West. Wave height was a nice fun sized 2-4ft (chest to well over head) and the tide was about an hour off the high. The waves on the Sand bar section was looking just a little too fat but the numbers were pretty good with only around a dozen surfers on it. It also looked like the usual rip current was turned off. While over on the right hand river mouth section of Pererenan there must have been close to 40 surfers in the water.
Weather wise it’s been a real nice day here on the holiday island of Bali and right now at 2.00pm the temperature is on 30 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 80%. So at this stage we might even be in for a return to the classic Bali sunset again today, fingers crossed. I’ll try and get down for a arvo surf check on the Outer Reefs, so stay tuned.
The next tide today will be a 0.7mtr Low at 3.26pm.
The moon phase is coming around for a New Moon on the 13th.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling for wave height to be dropping off a little but I’d say there will be some fun waves on offer through the morning. The wind should also be light and variable early before dedicating to the W-WSW sector around mid to late morning.
On the 14th of March Bali will again be shutting down for “Nypie” For those not aware of this it is the day that Bali shuts down completely. It’s almost ironic though especially for Kuta and Legian which has been deserted area’s for the last 12 months. Last year Nypie was extended for 3 days but this year it will return to the traditional 1 day of no one allowed to leave their place of residence. I don’t know how the anti mask wearer crew are going to handle it and I think the local Banjars may have their work cut out for them in certain area’s.
Just for the record today up in the Canggu area their was a big difference in mask wearing compliance. I think mainly due to the new laws with bigger fines and possible deportation. But even so there were still quite a few people not complying. I hope they get what they are asking for asap.
Ok thanks again friends for your support to the original Bali surf report and we are trying to keep things running all though we have had to gear things down a little.
