BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
27th – 29th May 2021
Hello Bali people and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since 1999, for surfers by surfers) We hope everyone is doing the best they can in order to get this crazy World back on track and life and life’s back to where they were before this pandemic began. I’m sure you all know that Bali’s most well know area’s namely Kuta / Legian are still like ghost towns with most doors closed and way too many for sale / rent signs on display.
While Bali’s International airport is closed to International flights and tourist visa’s not available. The latest numbers of International tourists entering Indonesia over the last 5 – 6 months is almost 150,000. But there is no Kuta or Legian. Canggu is the new Kuta and going off daily with near pre pandemic numbers of Europeans entering on the “business / investor” visa. Will Kuta ever be the epi center of Bali tourism again, who knows. But I think it will take a long time for it to get back up and running with most small businesses in the area already bankrupt.
Your average group of Aussies come to Bali for the easy going attitude of the Balinese that is similar to theirs. Being able to let their hair down. Cheap shopping, Bali tee shirts and sarongs, nasi / mie goreng and free flowing massage and bintangs. With the “new wave” of European millennials rapidly bringing their PC culture to Bali it’s going to be interesting to see how the two mesh. But it’s still a ways off from happening with our highly valued Aussie Bali holiday crews still locked down, but hopefully soon Kuta will be revitalised again.
Well for most days since the last report the off shore E-ESE Trade wind has been up and blowing it’s guts out. These photos and frame grabs are from my old GoPro I took on the 27th – 28th between Kuta Reef and Airport left. Plus a little “death or glory” on the Tuban / Pantai Jerman shorey. I should say possible death and glory as the shore break area was just a layer of broken up dead coral pieces and sharp. Getting pitched with the lip onto the sand and dead coral brought me back to life and snapped the hold that depression was starting to grip me.
On the 27th even though there were waves in the 2-4ft class out on the Reefs between Kuta Reef and Airport left the wind has been howling. Making it so hard to get into the waves and constantly fighting to not get blown off the face. Crowd wise the numbers have been low, ranging from plus or minus 10 at either KR or AL.
Yesterday the 28th and my surf check on the reefs was showing just a wind swept lone 1 footer breaking on Airports through mid morning. On the afternoon low tide you might have been lucky to get a couple of chest high sets on Middle Reef. In other words it was pretty small. Not much difference down there this morning the 29th with more micro waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport left.
Weather wise again today the morning sky is a clear blue and the Tradey is just starting to gear up now at 9.50am. it’s already a warm 28 C and Humidity is 86%.
The next tide will be a 2.5mtr High at 1.33am
Tomorrows surf Forecast is looking much better and showing some promise of a new swell starting to build through the morning on a 17-19 second period. The wind is also forecasted to be not as strong so Sunday is shaping up to be a good one surf and weather wise.
Long Range Swell Forecast is showing some nasty swell repelling High Pressure systems controlling the Indian Ocean but towards the end of next week we will hopefully see the Indian lighting up again and some good swell in transit to Indonesia.
The daily exchange rates on the streets are still booming and extremely good value for anyone changing dollars to Rupiah.
