BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
21st May 2021
Hello Bali people and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since 1999, for surfers by surfers)
I don’t know if most of you are still aware that Bali is really still hurting, most of Bali anyway. I guess you could say there are a couple of area’s around Canggu and down on the bukit that are cashing in from the European explosion. My family and I have a small guest house that mostly serves to Aussies, English, Kiwi’s, Americans etc and there hasn’t been any of those here on holiday since last Jan 2020. We are not alone of course, especially if any of you have watched the last video clip I posted with footage from Kuta and Legian (baliwaves YouTube channel).
There is a lot of desperation and depression happening around the island. Likewise if any of our friends can spare a dollar or two to help my Family it would be greatly appreciated, thanks (please hit this link to help out). Most of Bali is hanging out for our Australian brothers and sisters to return and Make Bali Great Again.
Well yesterday the 20th and a couple of my local surfing mates twisted my arm (not) to take my boat out for an arvo session at Airport left. From the shore roughly 900mtrs away it didn’t look too bad with some decent head high sets coming through. But as we got closer in the boat it was looking even better up close with chest to well over head high set waves. As it shows in these photos I shot with my GoPro it was clean and tidy even though the ESE Trade wind was up and in the 10-14knot class.
When we pulled up there was a total of 6 learners in the line up, from the accents I’m pretty sure they were mostly Russian and surprising also pretty friendly. But then I guess smiles get smiles if you know what I mean. After our first hour of almost taking turns a boat came out and picked up 5 leaving my friends and I and 2 others for the remainder of the afternoon. I hadn’t been out surfing this year due to injuries ones after the other that was putting me deeper and deeper into a depressed slump. Along with the added factor of not knowing if I will have enough money to feed my family and pay the bills next month hasn’t helped either. But for those 2 hours out in the surf laughing with friends my worry and stress was gone.
Today the 21st and my morning surf check on the Outer Reefs was a little late this morning seeing as though I had an appointment at the Immigration office to be photographed and finger printed for my KITAS visa. Anyway I made it down to the beach around 10.15am. I was expecting to see a bump in wave height that was predicted but it wasn’t there. I’d say it can through early like as in the afternoon before while we were out surfing.
Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport left was still only in the 1-3ft+ class with the tide still running out. Middle Reef looked the best on offer but only because that’s where the bigger head high plus waves were breaking. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with the Easterly Trade wind just starting to build some momentum.
Weather wise it’s been basically just your average Bali type weather, hot and sunny with off shore wind all day.
Tomorrow’s surf Forecast is calling for another bump in wave height small as it might be but never the less a bump late this afternoon and into tomorrow. Wind wise pretty much the same as today with early morning light NNE turning E-ESE by mid morning.
Long Range Bali Surf Forecast is saying that our moderate swell for the 25-26th is still on track and behind that more of the good stuff backing up for Bali on the 29th or there abouts.
On the Bali Corona Virus situation there were a few very disturbing articles I read and you can find them all at this link if your interested
