Bali Surf & Weather report (PPKM)
25th August 2021
Hello surfers and thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves (The original Bali surf report website since 1999). Bali is still currently under micro restrictions (PPKM) and has been now extended again through till the 30th. Although Bali’s domestic airport and inter island ferry service are open it is now only for fully vaccinated people. However it’s sad that there are still many many foreigners and locals not heeding the safety advice and directions of the government.
Ok so I finally got my old boat back in the water and it was great to do some hands-on repairs. The last few days the Outer Reefs, Kuta Reef to Airport left have still seen some fun sized waves. Only in that fun 2-3ft or chest to head high plus for those that don’t understand the old school wave height call. Yes, there have been some waves out there but the challenge was the off shore wind gusting upwards and beyond 20 knots at time.
Yesterday the 24th we did see wave height jump another foot with some of the better set waves hitting the 4ft class on Middle Reef. But again, the wind was howling and if you know what it’s like to surf in howling off shore wind then you know why there wasn’t too many takers.
This morning the 25th and wave height was predicted to hit the peak this morning. But I wasn’t expecting to see the set waves at Uluwatu up in the 6-9ft+ range, as they were. I arrived down at Ulu around 8.45am to find only 4 surfers on the Peak and a lone tow surfer and his throttleman picking off some long one’s up on the Outside Temple section and going right through. I did plan on shooting some photos out on Kuta Reef but with the big high tide set for late morning it would have been a bit tricky getting the boat back to the beach with a head high shore break.
Except for the tow surfer there were not too many waves rode while I was on the scene. I only saw the one wave rode on the Peak and another down on the “outside Racetrack” section. But as I was leaving there were more surfers turning up for the top end of the tide.
Driving home past Padang Padang and Impossible’s there were some nice lines wrapping down along the Impossible reef top end. No shortage of surfers spread all the way as far as I could see. I’d also imaging there might have been a few micro tubes squeezing tight on Padang Padang.
Weather wise today it was cloudy early but turned out nice and sunny down at Uluwatu. Right now, at 12.30pm it’s part cloudy again with the temperature on 28C, Humidity is at 75%. Wind direction is SE-SSE (that’s how it was down at Uluwatu, just a touch cross shore south of the Peak) at 10-14knot.
The next tide will be a 0.1mtr Low at 5.45pm
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is expecting wave to be backing off slowly throughout the day. But even though I reckon we should still have plenty of surf available right along our West Coast.
Long Range Surf Forecast is looking like wave height will continue to back off a little more through until the 29th when we should get another dose of Indian Ocean power visiting Bali. Further out and as always early September looks like it’s going to be delivering more solid raw power to Indonesia.
I’ve also been sent more photos and reports from our friends at Joyo’s G-Land Surf Camp / East Java and from the Manduna Surf Resort on the island of Rote. So, I’ll get them on line for you ASAP
Alright friends of Bali thanks again and if you can please spare us a little consideration and help to get us through each day.
Ok thanks again for hanging in there and believe me we are trying our best to act normal and can’t wait to see the end of this. It’s now going on 20 months of bugger all income and only just surviving from our friends that have felt my pain from a far. We have managed to sell a few tee shirts through June and July but only a handful of orders for August and looking grim. So please if any of our friends can spare a dollar or two and order an original baliwaves tee shirt (also now in long sleeve) you would not only be helping my family out but also others in the production sequence. https://www.baliwaves.com/2021/06/help-baliwaves-get-through-the-bali-corona-virus-cash-flow-crisis-with-a-rp90000-original-baliwaves-tee-shirt/
