Bali Surf & Weather report (PPKM)
3rd – 4th August 2021
Hello surfers and thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves (The original Bali surf report website since 1999). Ok first up our PPKM or micro restrictions that were due to end on the 2nd have been extended through until the 9th at this stage. Although Bali’s domestic airport and inter island ferry service are open it is now only for fully vaccinated people. Further down the page.
Ok yesterday I was down bailing out my boat from the last 2 solid almost nonstop days of rain we have had here on the island of Bali. It seems like our “winter: season has commenced with the start of August. Noticeably cooler morning and evenings and a strong and gusty off shore Trade wind. Wave height on the Outer reefs was still showing some good waves breaking, with Kuta Reef the best option.
This morning the 4th and I thought would be a good time to take a run down to Uluwatu and see what has happening down on the bukit. As it shows in our photo gallery wave height was on occasion hitting the 6ft or triple head high class for the newer surfers on our old school wave height call. The tide was running out from a low range High and there were still a few surfers (10) up on Temple’s and it was grinding hard, but a bit sketchy. The Main Peak had around 30-35 surfers and it was a touch wobbly and not your good straight edged walls. But there were still a few good one’s “peaking up”. As the tide did get lower the Racetrack was peeling off some nice ones but no takers while I was there. Instead of the surfers on Peak drifting down to the Track like usual most just came in.
Driving home past Padang Padang and Impossibles it was too small for Padang2 to break but there were a few walls peeling down the Impossible reef, there were also a few surfers scattered through it. I could imagine Bingin and Balangan to also be reeling off some good ones.
Weather wise nice to return back to a mostly blue sky after 2-3 days of rain. Currently right now at 2.00pm the temperature is a warm 29 degrees Celsius; Humidity is at 79%. Wind direction is a strong and gusty 25-30km/h
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is calling wave height to drop down a little more but there should still be plenty of waves on offer here along the West Coast between Uluwatu and Legian. The wind is again predicted to be coming hard out of the ESE similar in strength as today. Further out there is plenty more swell in transit to Bali and the first should start to hit our reefs on the 6th.
I’ve also just noticed a big load of photos from Padang Padang have just been sent through to us from our friend Nobu who is a long-time water photographer here in Bali. So as soon as I un pack those I’ll get them up on line for you to check out.
Bali Corona Virus 2020-2021. Well unfortunately the number of new cases in Bali continues to remain well over 1000 per day. The fatality rate is also way to high sadly with a 7 day daily average of 35. All the temporary pseudo business visas remain to be scrapped. Our PPKM micro lock down has been extended through until the 9th at this stage and will be reviewed again then. FYI on my drive down to Uluwatu this morning (to get your essential dose of Bali surf info and photos) I noticed just about every person on the road and the side of the road were wearing masks and complying with the current protocol. That was great I didn’t see any rule flaunters until I got down near the Ulu turn off and then there were plenty. Ok thanks again everyone for all your support and we really can’t wait for all our friends to be allowed back into Bali. We are still taking orders for our original Baliwaves tee shirts, please help us out and put in your order for a totally Bali / Indonesian made quality tee for 12 dollars. We make around $3.50 per shirt and that goes pretty much straight to my wife to help buy our families food. Check this link for the tee shirts https://www.baliwaves.com/2021/06/help-baliwaves-get-through-the-bali-corona-virus-cash-flow-crisis-with-a-rp90000-original-baliwaves-tee-shirt/
