Our good friends at Joyo’s G-Land Surf Camp have sent us over a bit of a collage of photos from their perfect holiday get away surf camp. For you guys and girls that haven’t yet taken the 1.5hr trip across from Bali to G-Land you really are missing out on a nature filled isolated in luxury surfing experience. It’s not just massive powerful waves hitting G-Land everyday. Nah, it’s just like everywhere else that has small surf days and big surf days. Even when it does get big and barreling there are safe haven small wave set ups (Tiger Tracks) offering perfect head high surf as an alternative. Photo credit Willy & Harry
Who knows the surfer in the old photo from the 70’s
These photos were shot on the 17th and and 18th and the swell that was hitting Bali didn’t quite get to G-Land in the same size. More of a clean and perfect 5-6ft+ compared to Bali’s 10-12ft+.
Our man on the ground in camp over there right now texted me this morning saying wave height has continued to drop off, same like it has here in Bali. Nb: Bali to G-Land is only around 52 nautical miles apart. The tide was low as it shows in the wide angle phone pics but he reckoned it was still going to be a nice fun sized 3-4ft over there today. He also mentioned there was lucky to be 25 surfers currently at Joyo’s and a similar amount at the Bobby’s. With such a big long line up in the water that really spreads out the numbers and then a large percentage of the actual surfers heading for “Tiger Tracks” it really is an opportune time to be in G-Land. Here in Bali yesterday the 17th and there were still plenty of wave on the Outer reefs between Kuta Reef and Airport left. 3-5 footers with the bigger set waves hitting Middle Reef on the morning and afternoon low tide. Not the usual big crowds that we have seen the last couple of months, a lot more mellow for sure. I also had an afternoon surf check up on the Padma St beach break around 4pm. The right hander out the front was breaking real nice in between the close out sets coming in well over head. It was also a full on rip bowl and the 2-3 surfers that were in the water chasing the rights just couldn’t to them it seemed.
This morning the 18th and our 8.30am surf check on Kuta reef was only showing wave height hitting the reef in the 2-2ft+ class. Middle Reef was looking a bit better with 4ft sets and Airport Left 2-3ft. Clean off shore wind out of the E-ESE that will probably get a bit stronger through out the morning. With the drop in wave height the learner groups have flocked back out there with plenty of surfers on all sections and a lot more getting ready for the high tide in the car park.
The next tide will be a 2.3mtr High at precisely 12.51pm (currently 9.55am)
Weather wise out there here in South Kuta we did have lots of blue sky earlier but there is now some light cloud moving through out of the East. The temperature is currently a warm 27C, Humidity is at 87% and the wind is SE at 10-12knot.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast has the wave models calling wave height to get smaller through out the day. But not long to go before another small to medium sized swell turns up in Bali on the 20th – 21st.
Tourism Heads Up, So today all the kids are back in school with their end of year holidays over. Traffic has settled down in the regular area’s but still busy in the usual parts of the island, Canggu and the bukit area. Good to see the Aussies still arriving I just wish we could get a few to come and stay with us. Lot’s of construction work going on along the beach from Patra to Legian and time will soon tell what’s going on.
Ok thanks from tuning into the baliwaves and if I get a chance today I’m going to throw another video clip together featuring the big swell from Uluwatu and the craziness of medium sized Padang Padang that all went down on the 16th.
So book your tickets, Bali is still waiting for you and your friends to come and pitch in.
