Well well well and welcome to the New Year and boy do I hope this one slows down a little compared to last year. WE hope everyone saw in the 1/1/23 in fine spirit and health and hopefully / fingers crossed this year is kind to us all. Yesterday the 2nd and Bali was belted with strong Westerly wind with gusts up into the 30knt+ range and today is no exception except maybe just a little less severe. There is an ex TC now settling into the mid NW Australia coast area along with another TC off the top end of QLD that that are sucking all the humid tropical air from just below Indo causing it and hopefully by early next week gone. But until then it’s going to be a bit breezy out of the West.
So don’t bother looking for any waves on any West coast cause it’s going to be ugly and white capped out. But there are a few locations over on the East Coast that can handle this wind. They might take you on a search, but that’s how you find new locations and seek and maybe you shall behold. Even Keramas that is usually clean and glassy was heavily cross on shore this morning.
Today’s photos were shot by our Team over at a place I’ve always know as “Secrets”. The first time I ever surfed there in the 90’s my good friend (RIP) Akira took me here and even back then there might have been around 20+ surfers scattered through the breaks. Today wasn’t much different with around 20 surfers on the rights and another 10-15 on the lefts. There are also some other breaks that are usually empty close. I might suss them out tomorrow for a “get back in the water paddle” seeing as though my knee is around 95% recovered.
Weather wise it’s been mostly overcast with a few drops of light rain here in South Kuta. Right now at 3.00pm the temperature is still a very warm 31C, Humidity is at 73%. Wind direction is a very gusty Westerly reaching up to 30knt.
On the tide scene it hurts me to say that my beloved RipCurl Titanium Tidemaster watch that cost around 5million Rupiah has run out of tidal data programmed into it after only 11yrs. I can’t believe it that it only had such a short expected life span of tide data for such an expensive surf watch. It really hurts because this watch has been so accurate with spot on tidal info over the years. I don’t have enough money to get a new one just yet but for a surfer a good tide watch is essiential. I’ll be shopping around when I do and will probably have to look at a “divers” type of set up if anyone has any advice please let me know. I really don’t want a RC gps set up as I’ve seen to many varying and often wrong tide info for Indo.
Ok crew thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves and we will be back out there again so stay tuned for surf and weather video up date on our FB page first thing in the morning.
