Hello Bali lovers and welcome back to your baliwaves for the latest news and best views from here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali. Today’s photo gallery is a compilation from the 1st and 2nd taken over on Bali’s East coast. As it shows wave height has been stuck in that 2-3ft class for what seems like ages. But there has still been a few quality waves breaking over on Bali’s East side. On the 1st conditions at least were perfect with a clean early morning off shore wind lasting through till mid / late morning.
Yesterday the 2nd and we thought we would take a run down to one of my old old favorite waves at Geger Beach in Nusa Dua. I hadn’t surfed there for many many years but was once my go to wet season location. It was still dark when we pulled off the main road and I was straining my eyes to recall the road down to the beach. Things really have changed over there and once I passed the 1000 room Mulia Hotel that was built there some years ago I knew I had missed the road. Pre mega hotel you used to be able to check the surf from the road, not any more.
Things had certainly changed from the days of the many different warungs all with so much local character circa early / mid / late 80’s 90’s and into 2000. Then they were bull dozed and a a big central cafeteria style warung replaced them. Then I found all the many perfect little breaks up the coast and gave up on the strong currents and shifty sections. But yesterday it all looked different again. We didn’t surf there but I dare say I will again some day as it can be a good last resort wave when there is only limited swell hitting the East coast.
From there we then drove all the way up to Padang Galak but by that time the learners on long boards owned it. Wave height there was only in the 1-2ft class so it was perfect for the learners. Back in the car, check the fuel gauge and burn on up to check Car Parks and the Main break. There was still 2-3 footers getting into both breaks and with only a small amount of surfers I pulled the hand brake and cooled her down. The wind was a little funky but the waves were still clean enough to go get a few. We were also lucky enough to share a few with Australian Movie star and very competent surfer Mr Chris “Thor” Helmsworth. Photo evidence in our current photo gallery.
Today the 3rd, with light and variable wind here in South Kuta Ketut thought he would take a solo run up to Canggu and shoot some more photos. The goods from Ketut was of head high waves and super clean and glassy waves on the left hand sandbar and the right hand river mouth. With the amount of strong on shore wind that has been hammering the West coast the last few months there was no shortage of surfers on all sections. Surfing conditions stayed clean and glassy through until mid / late morning. I’m going to check out Ketut’s photos shortly and will pass them onto you lot asap.
Weather wise outside we did have some light cloud cover earlier this morning but now at 12.50pm I can only see blue sky. Temperature wise the mercury is currently on 30C humidity is at 75%. Wind direction is now coming out of the West at 15-18km/h.
The next tide today will be a 1,1mtr Low at 2.29pm
Next Moon phase we will have a Full Moon rising on the 6th and don’t forget Bali’s “Nypie Day” will be coming up later this month.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast has the wave modals showing wave height to be just dropping off a “mickey” Wind wise we are hoping for more NW / WNW direction early before turning more West and eventually dedicating into the WSW by early afternoon.
Ok people have a great day and get ready for the weekend here on the original Bali surf report since 1999
Just a tip that can help to make sure you have a good time out in the water (any surf is a good surf right). If you find your self having accidently drop in on a local you had better be quick with your apology, quite often that’s all it will take to de essqualate the situation. If a local also drops in on you don’t freak out ! it’s only a wave and try to put yourself in their position with the current crowds. Just try complimenting or having a laugh with the surfer it will go down a lot better and earn you some cred. If you lose control and start swearing and dropping the “F” word I can assure you at the very least you will be in no polite way told to leave the water. Just a heads up cause we want you all to have good vibes in the water here in Bali.
If anyone of our regulars has an old GoPro at home they would like to donate to us at baliwaves we would be forever grateful. I did have a GoPro 7 but last year the rubber seal covering the on/off button perished and is now not water tight.
