Here’s the photos that Ketut shot yesterday the 23rd up at the black sand beach. As it show’s in the photos the waves were super clean with a light off shore wind and hitting the reef in the chest to well over head high class. Only 6-12 surfers in the water early while Ketut was on the scene but I did hear it got quite busy a bit later when the tide filled in a lot more. Super fun waves yesterday and I’m sure there were no complaints from anyone who was out there surfing.
Today the 24th and we went back to the black sand beaches. We were up early and on the road long before the sun was up, hoping to try and get some private time in the water on first light. There was an unusual amount of early morning traffic and a lot of angry drivers in quite a big hurry. As we pulled into the car park we knew we were not going to be the first out as there was also a few motor bikes with empty board racks on site. As the sun rose we could then clearly see that there were already 5 surfers in the water right on sun rise.
So we didn’t muck about getting ready and get out there. Expecting car loads of learners with long boards to arrive at any minute. But they never came. So we pretty much shared waves with a very friendly crew. Lot’s of hooting and a few long and fast rides were had by all. Even I managed to get a super long one, I’m a happy man. Wave height was head to double head high but with a few big lulls.
Weather wise another very hot and sunny day here on the holiday island and right now at 4.15pm it’s 30C. Humidity level is a 76% and the wind still a fresh SE at 25km/h
The next tide today in Bali will be another super dry 0.08mtr Low at 6.45pm
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast has the wave height models showing wave to be backing off a touch still on a respectable 14 second period. Wind direction is predicted to be light and variable early before swinging to the WSW and then South by early afternoon. I guess we will have to wait and see what actually happens.
Ok well if you are reading this report here in Bali then you know the domestic holiday people from all over Indonesia have arrived in Bali. With 90% of them all driving around and around the island. Coming back home at lunch time we thought we might slip through, nope. Just remember if you need to get to the airport or anywhere from 5pm onwards give your self an extra hour or 2 due to grid locked traffic. This happens every year, and should last through the rest of this week.
Travel tips. Personal hygiene is a big issue and it’s all on you ! I learn’t this a long long time ago when I started living here in Bali. You really need to understand that everything you touch here in Indonesia could be infected with harmful germs, everything, especially bank notes. So before you eat a single peanut or potato chip make sure you wash your hands with soap or sanitizer. If your with your family enforce these simple rules and you should be fine when it comes to the dreaded “Bali belly” Eating in hotel resto’s your more likely to get crook than eating in a small warung. Simply because the resto’s are not usually (most cases) staffed by owners with staff often worried about wasting food or hygiene. Not always, but that’s where I hear of the most cases of illness coming from. While the small owner operator warungs are too scared to serve bad food and lose their local and international customers. It makes sense to me. Bottom line is WASH YOUR HANDS thourelly before eating any food.
