Yesterday the 17th and Ketut was on the beach at 6.30am here on Bali’s West Coast. You can tell in a couple of the photos with the “low light blur” that the sun was just starting to pop up. This place was pumping on all 3 of the main sections of the Gu. There was only a couple of surfers in the water at first but by 7.00am there was a steady stream of surfers and dog walkers arriving by the minute. I have to say that the right handers were pretty much as good as they can get and that’s where the most surfers were hanging out. While the surfers on the left hand sand bar were fighting a constant rip bowl. But for those that could keep the paddle position there were some tasty rewards. The wind was light off shore out of the NNE early before dedicating to the ESE-SE around 9.45am
Weather wise yesterday it was like a breath of fresh air with nothing but blue sky and warm a tropical temperature.
This morning the 18th and we were up early and ready to go when I got a heads up from our friends that they had a family member fallen sick in the early hours on the morning and couldn’t make it for a surf. So seeing as though it was only 4.30am I went back to bed and caught up on some much welcomed sleep. But Ketut was back on the road at 6.30am over to the East Coast and reckoned it was cranking with only a handful of surfers in the water. Surfing conditions were as clean and clear as glass Ketut reckons and I’ll get onto downloading his photos later this afternoon or asap.
I also had a few reports in from other locations and where I had planned to surf was also peeling off at 8.00am with no surfers in sight, that hurts hehe.
News in from out the front here in South Kuta had wave height in the 2-4ft between Kuta reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were best early before the tide started filling in with Middle Reef picking up the bigger waves. No shortage of surfers on the Outer Reefs by 7.00am.
Tide wise this morning it’s just gone past the top of the tide and now on the run out for a 0.36mtr Low at 4.02pm
Weather wise outside it’s mostly clear blue sky with some cloud coming up out of the SE. Temperature wise right now at 10.55am it’s a warm 31C with the humidity at 75%. Wind direction is coming out of the East at 13km/h.
Tomorrow’s Swell Forecast is predicting wave height to bump up a little through out the morning and afternoon. Swell direction is also swinging a little more to the SW from today’s SSW with the period jumping from 12-13 seconds up to 16 seconds.
Travel tips. Personal hygiene is a big issue and it’s all on you ! I learned this a long long time ago when I started living here in Bali. You really need to understand that everything you touch here in Indonesia could be infected with harmful germs, everything, especially bank notes. So before you eat a single peanut or potato chip make sure you wash your hands with soap or sanitizer. If your with your family enforce these simple rules and you should be fine when it comes to the dreaded “Bali belly” Eating in hotel resto’s your more likely to get crook than eating in a small warung. Simply because the resto’s are not usually (most cases) staffed by owners with staff often worried about wasting food or hygiene. Not always, but that’s where I hear of the most cases of illness coming from. While the small owner operator warungs are too scared to serve bad food and lose their local and international customers. It makes sense to me. Bottom line is WASH YOUR HANDS before eating any food.
Ok friends thanks again for your dropping into the original Bali surf report website.
If anyone of our regulars has an old GoPro at home they would like to donate to us at baliwaves we would be forever grateful. I did have a GoPro 7 but last year the rubber seal covering the on/off button perished and is now not water tight. please contact us
