Hey crew, yep that’s right I’m back behind the 8 ball again with photos coming out my ears.. But anyway here’s a collection of sick shots from down at Uluwatu just before the swell hit on the weekend. I’ve still got another batch of photos from Uluwatu from the first day of that swell. I also managed to shoot a heap of sick 4K video of Racetrack going off and will be editing that up later this week. Now I think about it I’ve got 4K video coming out my ears shot from all over the island. So stay tuned for that.
Sunday and we were still surfing over on the East Coast. I think there was actually more swell hitting that side than what was here on the West side. The wind was a bit fresh early morning but as the tide bottomed out it settled right down and almost glassed off with wave height in the 3-5ft class and only nut a handful of surfers in the water. My late afternoon surf check on the Outer Reefs here in South Kuta was showing wave height fading out fast and down into the 2-4ft range between Kuta reef and Airport left.
Today the 15th and we were hoping the the wind would hold off and at 5.00am it was pretty well non exsistant. It wasn’t until we got just about all the way to Keramas that we could see that the Tradewind was already starting to kick in. There was a few waves even though the wind was cross / on shore but we decided to head back to South Kuta for a look at the Outer Reefs and catch Airport left.
The tide was just starting to run out back here and the wind was fresh off shore out of the E-ESE. There wasn’t a lot happening at Kuta reef and Middle Reef but there was still a few head high set waves hitting Airport Left. Around 30 surfers in the water but still a few waves to be had. It was full on learners day at Kuta Reef and the adjacent “Sena Reef” and plenty of “party waves” going down.
Weather wise today it’s been perfect Bali weather with the most orange sky I’ve seen at sunrise. Right now at 1.15pm there is some cloud looking down to the SE. Nothing but blue sky here in South Kuta. A warm 30C with the humidity at 62%. Wind direction is ESE at 23km/h.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is calling for similar wave heights as what we have today with just a small chance of a slight improvement in size and frequency. Light wind early before swinging SSE and then SE through the late afternoon.
I’ve also been rewarded with an in depth blow for blow, sun to sun down description from a friend who happened to be over in G-Land on the weekend, read on.
“Sun rise revealed large lines wrapping into the Bay with a crisp NE breeze. The Trades came in quite early , around 9.00am and the swell peaked at 10.30am. The main surfing focus was at Money Tree’s which was up in size from the day before. Then as the afternoon drew on wave height was dropping off but still a respectable double over head. Lots of serious long tube rides were had by anyone taking off.”
Wave height continued to drop with the afternoon glass off, but there were still World class waves rolling through in slow motion watching from the shore. There were also plenty of nice fun sized waves hitting 20/20;s and a few waves for the learners down at Tiger Tracks. Crowd wise there is still plenty of room compared to pre pandemic levels. The monkeys were all well behaved and keeping their distance. All in all great vides were felt out in the water and back on land and the bintangs were flowing into the evening”
