This morning the 27th we were back at it on the road long before the sunrise trying to get the drop on the late risers. We were on route to Canggu so you need all the advantage possible to justify being there. As it shows in this accompanying photo gallery it was well worth it indeed. Pulling into the car park at 6.05 to see the shadowy outline of head high waves peeling off on the Sandbar section. Usually if it’s head high before sun up then it’s going to be at least a couple of feet bigger when the sun does show. That’s exactly how it was, I’ve seen the dawn here in Bali enough times over the last 29 yrs to know this.
The sandbar had that heavy sweep dragging the surfers away from the sandbar but those who could hold position were getting some nice waves. There were also a few nice edges hitting the beach in between the rivermouth. While the rivermouth was a consistent well over head but crowded as usual. Actually I’m pretty sure the school holidays both here and in parts of Oz are contributing to the crowd factor at Canggu. But after the last few years it’s great to see a lot more surfers over here and not just the “learner sect” like it has been.
Early morning off shore wind with a pretty full tide for the dawn patrol. Around 8.45am I got the first smell of on shore wind around a good 5 mins before it actually tainted the clean and glassy waves. By 9.30 the wind was coming out of the WSW just as predicted on on our forecast yesterday. I do have to say that the traffic on the way home from Canggu at 11.am was %$#@&^ !!!
Weather wise today it was a partly cloudy morning here along the West coast of Bali with more cloud looming over the bukit end of the island. Now at 4.25pm it’s mostly blue sky with the temp still a warm 29C, humidity is at 79%. Wind direction is now out of the West at 16km/h.
The tide is currently just sitting on the top of a 1.59mtr High (4.27pm)
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is calling for similar sized waves for the morning session but with a more solid period of 18 seconds. Early morning light Easterly wind before the turning SE then SSE through out the day.
