Yesterday the 7th and we were out early hoping to find and early present in the way of some pre swell swell. So it was just before the dawn that we pulled up at Balangan beach and waited for the dawn to shed some light on the subject. Not to be but we were ok with Balangan only showing in the -2ft+ range we jumped back in the car and headed down the road another 26minutes to Uluwatu. Pretty much all the time there was a light rain or drizzle.
Uluwatu was at least breaking in the 2-3ft class and with the early morning rain the usually full car park was void of motorbikes bearing surfboard rack, a positive for the early rain. The tide was running back in and there was plenty of water over the reef by this time and a few little waves hitting the Main Peak and Temple sections with maybe 4- surfers in the water spread through the waves. We were still hoping to see some swell show on the incoming tide but.. As the sun busted out and the morning progressed so did the number of surfers with the crowd getting up to the 80 mark by 10.00am and an almost constant stream of surfers arriving as we made our way back to the car.
This morning the 8th and we knew there was going to be swell with reports in of solid waves all down the West Coast of Australia, this swell was predicted to have a lot of South in it. There was a little bit of wind early this morning but we took an educated guess and headed for the black sand beaches just after 5.00am. We were stoked to find some super clean conditions and no shortage of swell as the tide was just coming off the bottom. There were 20 surfers in the water but more than enough waves pouring through.
We hung out for two surfs this morning with only 8 surfers still hanging around by 9.00am. Surfing conditions stayed mostly clean and glassy through until 10.30am.
Weather wise it was clear sailing today with mostly blue sky and fair wind.
Tomorrow’s Swell Forecast is calling for a slight drop in wave height through the day. Hopefully we will get similar wind and everyone should be happy.
