Bali Surf Report – October 2 2007

AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Hello crew and thanks for dropping to check up on surf and weather conditions around Bali were today. Well the crew from here at Home Base and I loaded up the wagon and headed north west to Medewi at 4.45am. At that time of the morning it was still tto dark for a check on wave height on the Outer Reefs but we figured we should at least get some waves at worst in the waist to head high range. We arrived around 7.00am to find glassy little waves, exactly in the waist to head high range and no surfers in sight. The tide was almost at the bottom of a 0.3 mtr Low so it was a long and tedius rock hop before we could even start paddling. Low tide Medewi is still a fun wave, not as long as when the tide is in but still fun. I aso highly recommend wearing reef boots if your gunna try the low tide rock hop. I didn’t and managed to score one sea urchin spine embedded into one of my toes. Not too mention half a dozen little nicks and scrapes from the sharper rocks. We surfed for a good 2 hours and were eventually joined by half a dozen other traveling surfers, before retiring to the wave side café for some coffee and breakfast. Weather wise it was perfect with nothing but blue sky. The wind remained calm before turning to the South and increasing to around 4-7kn ot around 10.00am. I did get a look at the Outer Reefs here in Tuban just before sunset to find out that wave height had just started to pick up from being flat in the morning to a now 2-3ft . So hopefully we’ll see a touch more swell around tomorrow morning when we head back down to Uluwatu to get ya’s some more photos and video to eye ball for yaselves. I’ve also got another couple of video clips of some of the young local rippers surfing up along the beach breaks at “Half Way” Kuta yesterday to load up, so check them out as well hey.
