**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** HAPPY NEW YEAR to all you surfers tuning in for the first surf report to come outta Bali in 2008 . And what a huge night it was around town with thousands apon thousands of people out to see in the New Year. Ok these current photos were taken up at Keramas on Bali’s East Coast yesterday afternoon by Scott, and as ya’s can see it was ok and defenitly worth a paddle. I also got word from one of the boys staying with us at Home Base that Serangan was breaking nicely in the 2-4ft range.
Well the year has already got off to an ok start here in Bali . When I went down for my 6 .30am surf check of the Outer Reefs things weren’t looking too bad. Wave height has increased a foot or two and is coming through in the 2-3ft+ range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . Hardly any wind present when I was on the beach, only just detectable coming outta the NNE so surfing conditions on both sides of the island are clean and glassy . The tide was still running out for a 0.5mtr Low set to bottom out around 10.00am. So I’d have to imagine that down on the Southern end of the island wave height would have to be pushing the 3-5ft+ range from Uluwatu around to Nusa Dua .
Weather wise out there this morning it’s still pretty damp, drizzly and the sky is cloudy and grey. Right now at 9.00am the outside temperature would be sitting around the 25-26 degree Celsius mark and I don’t think it’ll be going too far past that.
I’m stoked that our Scholarship Program for underprivileged Balinese kids has done so well, THANKS BIG TIME to all the big hearted people who have got behind us and helped out. Now I’ve got a new program that I’d like to kick off. One that we can control and keep constant progress up-dates on. I’m talking about kinda adopting a school up in one of the area’s of Bali where there’s no cash flow from tourism and hardly any from anything else for that matter. The kids don’t have to pay school fees, because their Mum and Dad’s don’t have any money to pay. Half, or more of the kids that attend don’t even have shoes to wear to school and walk up to 4km’s bare footed or in rubber thongs just to be there. Now in my opinion this is a worthy project for us to think about. What I’d like to start off with is trying to raise enough cash to get electricity hooked up to the school, with electricity we can then look at a lot of other basic stuff, like a water pump etc etc etc.
Well Thanks to all the kind hearted folks that have helped us improve the conditions up at the Datah Primary School ! We are making some real progress with the objectives we made so make sure you check out our progress at the school via the “SCHOOL PROJECT” page over on the menue bar .
Have a good one what ever you’ve got happening out there and stay tuned to the one and only Original Bali Surf and Weather website .
