**** AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Hello folks and thanks for hanging out for the news on todays surfing and weather conditions here in Bali today. Well everything started off pretty much the same for me except a for a tweaked back from too many miles on the road yesterday. Combined with bad posture maybe…
But before I went down for the count I managed a painful surf recon of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban . That was at 7.00am, it’s only just now at 4.00pm that I’ve come outta the pain killer delirium. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left had dropped off furth er and only brea king in the 1-2ft range on the bigger set waves. The wind was coming cleanly outta the ESE and straight off-shore between Legian and Uluwatu . The first of our tides today was a 0.5mtr Low @ 6.00am and then a 2.6mtr reef smothering High around midday.
Middle Reef did have the odd waist high plus wave brea king when I was down on the beach and there were one or two surfers out there having a paddle. But I couldn’t wait to get home and lie down on the floor and straighten my back out. Luckily for us our man Scott made the run down to Uluwatu with his new Cannon 600mm and SLR and snapped off a few photos of the action on the Main Peak . Scotto reckoned there were only 30 surfers spread between the Main Peak and Temple sections and you can see in these current photos wave height was in the 2-3ft+ range.
Before coming home Scott also made a detour to a semi secret surfing location and shot a few more photos. You can check them out and try and guess where by checking out his Readers Report.
Weather wise around Tuban today it started off clear and sunny but around midday the clouds started to slowly move over. No rain has fallen and the tempe rature woulda easily busted into the 30’s on the Celsius scale.
Swell Prediction ; Ok I’ve been keeping my eye on the swell prediction charts from various sources. What should happen if they are on the ball is that tomorrow we should see a small spike in wave height and then once again slowly fading back down into the 2-3ft range at the better locations. Then some time in the next 5-6 days it’s looking way better with a solid looking swell system starting to hit our reef breaks. I’ll be keeping an eye on this transitting system and keep ya’s up ta date on it’s where abouts.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys up at the Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai islands of Sumatra have sent us through a big up-date on whats been happening around their surf riddled region of Indonesia. And it looks like they have been doing pretty good surf wis e. So you can find their info and photos in the Surf Report menue.
Quicksilver Open at Keramas ; ok the contest has been run and won so check out the full details on the ISC website.
Datah Primary School ; Well as I promised I made the day trip up to the school yesterday the 23rd for a look at the progress on their new wall and gate. I was stoked to see it 99% completed, they were just waiting for the carved stone feature to finish off the gate entry way. I’m going to try and get the new photos and progress report typed and edited up tonight for all our fantastic sponsors that have helped our school. The last main objective is to get the kids assembly and prayer area paved. The good news is that we still have around Rp10,000,000. funds still in the kitty and fingers crossed that should almost be enough to cover the 10mtr x 50mtr area to be paved.
For the surfer / fisherman out there, and isn’t there a little bit of fisherman in all of us ? Well you guys can take a look at the fishing report and photos from the last couple of trips out sport fishing here in Bali
